So, even though wakes and funerals suck, Mawmaw's was absolutely beautiful. It suited her and I know she would have thought it was beautiful.
Mawmaw wore her favorite white turtleneck shirt and a pair of blue dress pants. This was one of her typical outfits, she never really was granny-ish about it. Her casket was solid white with gold handles shaped as angels. She actually looked like Mawmaw for the most part. I noticed that at funerals, people generally don't look like themselves in caskets. Except for the color of the lips, Mawmaw looked like herself. I half expected her to pop right up and be like "I'm just kiddin y'all!" but of course she didn't. So many people sent baskets of flowers, including my dad's family, who sent orange roses. The entire backdrop was filled with baskets and bouquets [sp?] of flowers. I'd say there were at least 30.
The funeral was beautiful. I don't think it could have been any better. Then the funeral procession was actually comical. Some lady rushed out and almost hit the family limo! Not to mention cut into the funeral procession. We didn't get mad because we all knew that Mawmaw would have gotten a big kick out of it. Then once at the grave site, the sheriff, who led the procession, gave the lady a ticket and a verbal beatdown. HAHAHAHAHA. So once at the gravesite, I got out of the car and pointed out to my little cousin Hollie: "Holy crap, that herse has HUGE rims!" And Hollie looked at me and was like "Mawmaw's ridin' in styyyyle!" I had to laugh a little.
But yeah. It was beautiful.
I love you Mawmaw, and I'll miss you!
