Notes: This work is rather short, even by my standards; I guess it’s more like poetry than anything else, except there’s no actual rhyming. I initially tried to make it rhyme, but it ended up going a different direction. Oh well, such is life.
Impossible

We are impossible.
We cannot admire the character… without abhorring the profession.
We cannot admit our feelings… without admitting defeat.
We cannot look at what is before us… without seeing what is forbidden.
We cannot surrender to what we want… without surrendering what we are.
We cannot reach out to comfort… without recoiling from the touch.
We cannot say we are sorry… without saying we were wrong.
We cannot exist together… without mutual destruction.
We cannot live apart… without living incomplete.
