My problem is that the human race seems to want to be destroyed!

It is very hard to do much paranormal investigating when you promise someone that you actually care about keeping promises to that you won't wander around at night.

Which is unfair, because the wandering in question was a totally different situation. During an investigation you're totally focused on your surroundings! The chances of being caught unaware would be... very slight.

But, Dib did promise. So he'll need to think of ways to keep his promise while still managing to investigate.

The first idea's were things he was already planning on doing anyway: Buy a taser, possibly mace (but it seemed over-kill to have both) and maybe look into some self defense classes. Annoyingly, most of the classes Gotham U is holding are women only. And while he's all for women being able to defend themselves, his ability to withstand embarrassment is only so much.

The second idea involves finding a local group so he's technically not out alone. Which is ok, but he likes being able to decide how long he wants to be at a place and likes the flexibility of being able to switch targets if it becomes obvious one isn't what it claimed.

A side thought to that is seeing if he could talk Pickman into staking out places. Graveyards at night seem like something he'd be interested in painting, but he may have actually gone past that or have so much of a mental gallery that he doesn't need the photo references any more. Granted, Dib might just be able to pay him, but that's still not a guaranty that Dib won't get mugged by someone (possibly Pickman).

Maybe some kind of message system? Send Livvie a text every two hours to show he's fine. Build up enough of a 'I'm really not as helpless and naive as I seem' trust base so that she's ok with the fact that he's out in the city at night. He's not even wandering the streets; Buildings and graveyards, while technically 'public', are not the places normal muggers wait for people. (He needs to be more careful of disturbing sleeping homeless people.) And he's not going in blind; checking these places out in the day time for signs of life is a normal practice. Doing otherwise is practically asking to get hurt!

For the time being, Dib'll just go about doing research on local hot spots and exploring in the daylight.
