In the interim of a replacement unit for the ARX-7 being developed, Mithril has sent me a standard-issuse M9 Arm Slave. I have more than enough experience with the machine, but considering that I've been using something as high-spec as the Arbalest for several years now, it would certainly do me more than a little good to get used to the M9's ( Read more... )

If you have any need of help customizing the M9, just ask me. If I can keep a fifteen year old machine up to speed with everyone else's I'm sure I can help somehow.

I'm not sure that customization would be financially viable, considering that there's already a replcaement for the ARX-7 in production.

Oh, we could probably keep it basic if it's just a temporary thing.

So what's this new machine going to be like?

I won't know for sure until I get it. The development is all top-level Mithril Intelligence classified information.

I'm probably a bit out of practice myself what with my month long sulk. Probably need to dust out the cobwebs a bit myself.

Piloting, like any physical skill, requires diligent practice to stay in shape.

And I'm the first to admit I've been slacking off.

Then why not take a few rounds in the sims to kick off a full recovery?

So the Arbalest wasn't something they're planning to base a mass-production model off of?

The Lambda Driver technology is too unreliable for mass production, speaking from experience.

I've heard about that. It certainly sounds difficult... though maybe you could train a small number of soldiers in its use specifically.

Frankly, the technology behind the Lambda Driver is barely understood at best. I'm fine with them restricting its usage to a couple choice machines.

Hm... just from Celestial Being's records, I don't know terribly much about Mithril's units. Just how reliable are these "Arm Slaves"?

The M9 has enough flexibility of control to mimic any actions that a human is capable of. The offensive capacity depends on how it's armed, but in general, they can stand up to most modern Mobile Suits without much trouble, in the hands of a capable pilot.

Interesting... I doubt it has an interface like one of those strange Gundam Fighter machines Domon and Allenby use, though. And versatile, as well. Sounds similar to a Gespenst. I'd refer you to Shiro for some advice on using such units, but it seems he's heading off for awhile. I take it has standard issue equipment?

It's not actually completely dissimilar from Mobile Trace. The name "Arm Slave" comes from the control scheme, wherein the arms are controlled by a Master/Slave system that mimics and enlarges subtle movements made by the pilot.

I've only ever had to fight with anything other than EVA-00 once. I've wondered since then...is cross-training very difficult, when you're so used to one unit?

It depends on how different the two machines are, both in terms of control scheme and combat capabilities. Also, it becomes easier the more you learn to pilot multiple kinds of machines.

I see. Then I'd be at a disadvantage, since the Evas are so different from the other machines.

Considering your situation, you'd probably do best sticking to one unit.
