Following research conducted on and with the aid of
trinitys_ghost, I have started to develop research toward interactions with "phased" entities. After observing the properties of phased beings and their interactions with solid objects I proceeded to emulate this effect in simple inanimate objects to begin with, increasing their complexity with each ensuing success until we finally managed to work with moving objects.
Thus began the second stage of developments:
By causing a projectile to rapidly shift phase between solid and not, I managed to get an initially solid projectile to interact with a permanently phased object. Here is where an interesting side-effect was noticed: That being, the phased target immediately reverted into phase with reality.
The projectile continued to shift phase through the target, dissipating its energy periodically through the target until it has stopped. The second drastic change in momentum stops the reaction, and the projectile remains, in a solid state within the target. In addition, given that the projectile is out of phase through 50% of its flightpath, air resistance is reduced by a like amount.
Upon investigation with solid targets, similar effects were noticed, although penetration was impressive, almost bypassing laminate/ceramic armour types and almost completely ignoring ballistic cloth.
Further investigation: Phase containment fields.
