First Day at Work

Oct 12, 2011 20:14

Okay, so quick update before I abandon my laptop to go curl up on the comfy, comfy couch.

Drive in went well, and I got there 20 minutes early, which gave me time to get gas and hit up Starbucks for coffee and a bagel. Got to meet my new boss and two of my co-workers. We'll call them T, E, and C respectively. C was the only other girl with me today. From some of the conversations I overheard today there's more co-workers, so I will keep you posted. The two owners, the general manager (who interviewed me back in September), plus 2 managers from other stores (1 from PEI the other from Alberta) and 2 techies were also there.

Not all of the shelving is up yet, which is limiting us in what we can do. So we've been sorting inventory into boxes alphabetically by manufacturer so we can process it; basically 1 person pullsl out a handful of stuff from the box, checks it off of the inventory list, hands it to the next person who then finds the UPC sticker on the sheet and sticks it on before tossing it into another corresponding box. The only problem with this is that the original list we were working from screwed up during printing so it wasn't all in order at all and neither were the stickers. The fact that we manged to process a whole box and a half before the problem was addressed was a miracle. (Also, we had to wait for the bosses to show up before we could do anything, and they weren't there until, like 10:30am.)

Needless to say that we wasted a lot of time before we got the new paperwork. Once we transferred the processed inventory onto the new sheets and got back into it, it went a lot faster. Normally one would scan things into a computer to receive, etc. but as the tech guy has yet to finish the damned coding for the various applications, forget installing the damned terminals (which looked like he was in the middle of doing as I left this evening).

And while last week they couldn't get a shipment of product to save their lives, they got a huge one yesterday and then 3 more today. So needless to say that the store is in shambles, but it will look spifftastic once everything's sorted.

I've had the chance to help shut down a store, and now I get to help open one up.

I'm so excited :D

I have more of the inventory thing tomorrow, most like. This 9am start time is annoying. Because BBV was so close I could take a little longer to get my shit together in the morning, even go so far as waking up at 8am, 8:15-8:30 latest, but because I need to leave between 8 and 8:15, I need to be up by 7:30am latest, and that's if I don't need to shower or make food for the day, etc.

Okay. So, since I don't have anything waiting for me for my church stuff, I'm going to go sit on a squishy couch and rest my feets. No fatigue mats yet = srs pain standing for long periods.

Good night, Internets :)
