Found this while reclaiming the second last drawer of my dresser.
This was an exercise from math class. I don't remember which grade, nor did I do the second part of the exercise.
Math Magic
Discover the magic by following the steps with at least 3 different numbers. Then use a variable to show why the magic works.
1.
Pick any number.
Add 10.
Multiply by 3.
Subtract 12.
Divide by 3.
Subtract the original number.
2.
Pick any number.
Multiply by 6.
Add 15.
Divide by 3.
Subtract 5.
Divide by 2.
3.
Pick any number.
Multiply by the number of months in a year.
Add 36.
Subtract the number of eggs in a dozen.
Divide by the number of inches in a foot.
Subtract the original number.
4.
Pick any number.
Add to it the nuxt four numbers in sequence.
Divide by 5.
Subtract 2.
