This week, I have been working on an exhibit about train wrecks. Part of this is compiling a list of significant train wrecks, accidents that spurred technological innovations or ways of thinking about safety. It's rather depressing. Like most new technology, railways had a bit of a learning curve. However, unlike say, VCR's or toasters, bugs in the system generally resulted in people screaming and dying as they were engulfed by flames. In the first 50 years of rail travel, most accidents involved a) boiler explosion, b) bridge collapse, or c) both.
I've been playing a lot of Farmville.
