The unforseen pitfalls of archiving

Dec 16, 2009 13:21

The British Columbia Thesaurus is used to catagorize archival materials. It does this by listing hierarchies that are used to catalogue an item/photo. While it is handy, I do sometimes wonder at some of things that were deemed worthy of inclusion. Cranberries, leprosy, concentration camps, papal visits, dude ranches and Fenians are included. Scrapyards are not. Guess which one I need. I also suspect that it was drawn up by people living on the coast, as all things waterborne are heavily represented. Railways, not so much. Should they ever revise this thing, I have a few suggestions.
