I didn’t like Love and Monsters. I loved this.
To my great surprise, my mum called up the stairs and told me Doctor Who was on. What? We’re watching it? Isn’t there football on? You’re not just reminding me that I haven’t set up the recording?
I started watching about a minute before the grandson rang the bell and it took me a while to understand what was happening, up about the bit when the police guy, Billy, blinked and was transported back to 1969. (And oh, the Doctor and Martha stranded in 1969. He/she/they definitely met a past companion/incarnation. It happened.)
I really liked the way Kathy and Billy just made what they could of their lives, despite being in a Sam Tyler-esque situation without a hope of getting home. Oh, and much love for Martha being all indignant over having to work in a shop. (My dad then made some comment about what else does a girlie expect.)
And yes, the Angels scared me. They scared me lots. I think the stereotypical ‘nasty’ face made it a bit less effective, but still. I can imagine small children being terrified of statues if they watched this, a bit like shop window dummies in Jon Pertwee's time.
I liked how they were tricked into looking at each other, all we need now is some clever sod to come along and move one out of the circle.
A bit mystified as to why the TARDIS left Sally and the guy whose first name I can't remember Nightingale behind. *shrugs* Parting of the Ways said that the TARDIS can materialise around people, so I suppose it could work both ways.
Oh, and I really really want to know what the Doctor and Martha were haring off to do. Nice resolution at the end; I like loops.
In conclusion, Martha is awesome.
And Captain Jack is back next week! *bounces* I hope we get more of the S1 Jack than the Torchwood Jack. More fun and less angst, please.
The one bad thing about watching it with my family is that they do not appreciate that I need my fangirl time. I had to define the difference between squee and squeak to them, because they told me to stop squeaking.
Also, my dad would never get to travel in the TARDIS, because he says that he wouldn't find seeing one of those down the High Street at all unusual, as he remembers them so well.
I, of course, would just have to run over and try the door and see if there was any vibration.
And I need to stop there before I ramble completely off the point.
