Everyone's out grasping at ideas to lower the fuel mileage of their cars, reduce our dependence on foreign oils, and lower their tailpipe emissions (which is impossible). So the government is involved, giving power to these small sects of people who can't win at democracy. So, what are they doing?
THEY'RE KILLING THE AUTOMAKERS. Plain

About 0 pollutants - I'm not lying. Bryan has seen the tailpipe sniffer. The engine is run at a level where all emissions are at their collective lowest point (Its a compromise). Everything we release is H2O and HO2.
I've been wondering if there is a way to collect the electrons emitted by the sun (Maybe a probe in the atmosphere or even a satellite in space). I mean, if we only collect 10% of the electrons the sun releases in our direction... We could remove all coal power plants (If we also devise a way to transmit that power to the ground... Maybe Wave Fields?
And the 6-stoke engine will increase efficiency by a great deal just by simple logic: In the 3 stroke motor, it's 3 stroke to create 1 power stroke. The 6-stroke 4 strokes for 2. That's a 150% increase in efficiency. And all I've seen that's close is a head gasket leaking coolant into the cylinders. When this happens, the water actually works to clean the chamber. Also, the exhaust temperatures are so hot that the water never hits any metal before it vaporizes and starts expanding. What I do not agree with totally is you saying that it may not produce the same power - We use the same method to work your A/C. It may or may not produce the same power - However, it _would_ increase efficiency because its recapturing previously wasted energy. In fact, the very same energy that the Efficiency Law states makes a machine inefficient.
However, water is heavier than fuel. But hopefully, the idea will work well enough to eliminate the need for a cooling system, which frees up weight from many many angles. No radiator, wiring for fans, relays for fans, the fans themselves, etc...

Ok as far as the pollution provided by a car. Yes, Our cars when RUNNING CORRECTLY produce nothing but H2O and CO2 out of the Tail pipe. It only takes about 10 seconds to light off the cat after a cold start, and that time varies by ambient temp. However the cat isnt the end all be all of the car. Chryslers cars have gotten efficient enough to where we could probably run our cars without a cat converter. Based on the 14.7:1 AFR that the car runs at it is peak for performance, emissions, and fuel efficiency. Its basically an upside down bell curve. If we run the car leaner at say 15.0:1 AFR Gas mileage will increase, however performance will decrease and NOx emissions will increase due to the hotter combustion temps. If we run the car richer at lets say 12:1 AFR, which is the best AFR for performance, performance will increase, however gas mileage will decrease and our HC (Hydrocarbon) emissions will increase. Our cars don't exactly run 14.7:1 all the time anyways. We actually bounce our AFR from 14:4 (roughly) to 14.9(roughly). The reason we do this is to make the cat more efficient. We do this this to heat and cool the cat essentially. When it runs rich the cat will do a better job of eliminating the left over NOx emissions and when we run it lean the cat will do a better job of eliminating any left over HC emissions. Its called CAT FOOD in the book.
Now, that being said.
Cars arnt the end all be all of the green house gas problem. First off lets look at the only 2 things that come out of a tail pipe. CO2 and H20(aka steam). H20 is water. enough said. Now for the CO2, lets think about this logically. What uses CO2. Plants. In the basic process of photosynthesis a plant takes in CO2, water, sunlight, and minerals from the ground. Through this process, it then converts it to O2 and water, the rest it uses to sustain itself. Now, lets look at whats going on in the world. Population growth is at a all time high. Well what happens with population growth? More land is converted to asphalt and cities. So in a sense we cut down more trees and destroy more vegetation. With less plants there is nothing to use the CO2 that is being emitted by our cars, animals (including people), and the Ocean.
Perhaps we all should plant some trees and start holding our breaths a little more...
Now John, about the sulfur, let me ask you this. In basic chemistry both sides of a chemical equation have to be balanced correct? Well, if you have HC + O2 + N on one side of the equation, how is sulfur going to get on the other side of the equation? Does god fart in the Tail pipe?
You can run a car in a building for hours on end and the most you might get is a head ache from the exhaust fumes of a car due to the amount of the CO2 in the air. The smell you get from the exhaust is just from the left over fuel thats burning in the cat that didn't burn during the combustion process.
And another thing. The earth has been constantly going back and forth between warming spells and cooling spells for billions of years. Its a natural cycle of things. There has been 2 ice ages of this world and they wont be the last.
Right now we are in between ice ages. So naturally things are going to get WARMER. Then when it peaks, it will start getting cooler and cooler till the northern and southern hemisphere freezes again. Do you know what controls our climate? The ocean... During the first ice age all of the continents were down south near Antarctica. When down there they disrupted the current flow of the oceans and the earth froze. Guess whats happening right now. The continents are drifting closer together on our tectonic plates. Guess what is getting bigger? The ATLANTIC OCEAN... which in turn affects our climate...
All in all, Cars aren't the end all be all of fixing this emissions problem. Its just the EPA and the Government need a scape goat because they are to gun shy to go after the real problem. POPULATION and DEFORESTING.
I rest my case,
Bryan
