Movie Report: Pan's Labrynth

I understand what the buzz is about, but I would rather have had this story had been about either the personal story with the characters in a time of war or about the girl being dragged into the underworld.

This is likely just a me thing. I've read a few novels where fantasy is just a part of the story like any other part. There's the love story, the war story, the hero's journey, the fantasy plot, the redemption plot, etc. This is fine, of course, but for some reason I'm never satisfied with the fantasy plot. The war story could be simple--even the hero's journey could just cover the basics--but the fantasy plot has to be fully flushed out.

This film is scary and sad. Consider yourself warned.
