Second interview

Dec 06, 2006 17:11

Monday at 10:30am. Anyone have any tips? I'm no good at this shit. HBA was my second "big" interview and I got the job so I haven't done this in a long time. I'm meeting with the senior designer this time.

Don't know if you want all this but here is what I got:

I've always been complemented about how blunt I am about everthing, I am trusted in interviews right away. If you don't know something, be honest, if you are qualified in other areas related to the job, the honesty will work well with the part you are knowledgable about.

I've heard getting them to talk about themselves is good for getting a good impression but you probably already have that since this is the second interview. If you can talk about how you are a team player or how you take initiative in your work or even in leisure (like starting the kickbal games or whatever). Be friendly and don't be bland in casual conversation (i.e. afraid to say something to upset someone)

When discussing salary, its a bit tricky. Both sides want the other to say an amount first. However if they do give you a range, always aim for the upper end of that range, if they end up offering oyu the lower end, talk to them and try to get a few more bucks out of them. I've been able to do that both jobs I've tried as usually they will have an area they can wiggle in and are going to start lower. Have an idea of what you want, vacation (try for 3 weeks for any non-entry level position) and salary. Ask about how many holidays you get off too. I don't know what kind of job it is, but if you can think of a way to squeeze out a starting bonus (so you can focus at this job or to get up and running are good attempts.) I havent managed that one yet though. When you're negotiating, the worse thing they say is no and you still have the starting offer.

Thanks for the info. I know your not in a portfolio based field but I have another question...purely opinion based, I think. I already showed my portfolio to the woman who interviewed me the first time but another designer will sit in on the second. I was thinking of calling Cindy tomorrow and asking if there was anything else she would like to see in my portfolio this time. *I wouldn't say the rest of this. It's strictly for explanation purposes for you* Obviously she liked it enough to get me a second interview but I would just like to know if it was enough to show them what I can do or if they had a sense of weakness in an area. Do you think this is a bad idea or that there is any way that she could see a call with this question as a negative thing?
