It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year-R-Romance-Warning: Language
“Pull it!”
“What?”
“I said pull it Guinevere! PULL!”
“You don’t have to shout!”
“Then get a new set of ears so you can hear me! Shit Guin, I’m losing my arm here!”
She pulled.
She pulled so hard that the lumbering branches of pine and needles scraped against the open door and the pointy end of the huge object jabbed into his stomach.
“OW.”
“Well you said to pull.”
“Oh crap. Set it down.”
“Huh?”
“SET IT DOWN.”
She dropped it to the floor. Giving a heavy sigh, Arthur moved to the door assessing the damage to his apartment. “Great. Now I’m going to have to pay for that. Tell me again why we’re doing this.” He rubbed his stomach, hand moving back and forth over his royal blue sweater where the pine needles had poked into.
“Because she thinks we’re still together.” She let out with a hiss, grasping her wild curls of hair and pushing them back into a ponytail with exasperation.
“Your mom.”
“Yeah.”
He shook his head hard, blonde whips of gold flurrying around. “Do you know how pissed Vivian is with me now?”
Gwen made a snarky smirk. Vivian was his latest, platinum hair and talked like she had just gotten out of grade school. “Lance isn’t any too pleased with me either.”
It was his turn to make a face. Lance was the kind the women went gaga over, so perfect, so charming so…chivalrous. Guy was an idiot philanderer. “He’s nothing but a Casanova. Should have ended it with him months ago Guin. All he cares about is how well endowed you are.” He gestured to her curvaceous body.
She moved forward to be standing on her tippy toes. Wearing her sneakers she was a good deal shorter than her ex. “Do you think Vivian gives a fig about your brain? Doubt it since she doesn’t have one.”
He stared and she mentally reprimanded herself. Really, what were they doing? Had they grown so far apart that they couldn’t even talk to each other without spouting out vitriol?
“That’s mean Guinevere.”
Her nose wrinkled. “Forget who we’re dating now. I told you why I had to do this. My mom’s just getting over treatment. For some crazy reason she still loves you Arthur. So I don’t want to cause her stress, okay?”
He let out a heavy sigh, his face losing some of its anger. Her mom was a gentle kind woman who was also quite sick. It’s what first put so much stress on their relationship. Well actually it was a lot of factors. Guinevere was kind too, but also a go getter, wanting to help here and there all the time. She wasn’t around much in the past year and it made him angry. It made him get petulant. It was childish and some it he regretted now, but it went far enough that he believed it was for the best. He and Guinevere just weren’t matched up that well.
“Ow.” He let out now, rubbing again at his stomach.
Gwen took a slow step forward. The entire world called her Gwen, except for Arthur. The first time they made love and he whispered it in her ear she turned to mush. No doubt Arthur was a fantastic lover. Not just physically, but so in tune to her emotions. He made her feel special in bed. Too bad out of bed everything just went to the dogs.
Her hand extended and without really giving it the call to she was lifting up his sweater. Well it wasn’t like she had no intimacy with this muscled body. They were together for almost two years.
Arthur bit at his bottom lip. Her touch could still send weird vibrations through him. It sounded like some stupid magical fantasy, but they were very good at all that physical stuff. It was the communicating that they sucked at.
Yet still, her fingers were like mini sorcerers as they now tendered against his vulnerable skin.
