- Blocking Tumblr, LJ, and a bunch of other sites yesterday gave me the time to read a book and a half and cook dinner for six people. And only a little withdrawal

So, I was actually about to email you because I have this one half-formed idea about a story but it would be all about friendship and involve no porn and the romantic pairing would be mostly offscreen, so no one would read it.
So basically, Louis always gets "the gay one" questions (can I just pause and go "wow" over the fact that they now ask these questions instead of blind items implying it?) Anyway, Louis is greatly uncomfortable with having to repeat himself on this subject. But it turns out that Harry has been having a relationship with Grimmy and just doesn't feel the need to hide it anymore, because he's Harry and just doesn't give a fuck, so he just clears it with management and starts answering all dating questions truthfully and lets the chips fall where they may until the press catches on that he's not joking.
And this is all well and good with everyone and they're all supportive and brotherly, except the frequency of questions about Louis' sexuality have actually increased, and interviewers ask the Larry question all the time and make jokes about breakups, and the tinhatters have gone insane on Twitter asking about Harry breaking Louis' heart, and it is driving Louis crazy. But he can't say anything, because how do you explain to your best friend, who's happily dating a dude, that you'd really appreciate it if people actually believed you when you said you're not gay? At least not without creating a "not that there's anything wrong with that" situation?
And it causes strain in the friendship and Louis angst about whether or not he even has the right to feel the way he does, and is he making it all about him? And Harry wonders if he's done something wrong, because this was also supposed to have made it easier on Louis and diverted attention from him, so this is causing Harry angst, but then it all gets resolved somehow, because they're BFFs. IDEK. I'm just fascinated by the fact that Louis is consistently forced to define his sexuality even though he's so young his brain hasn't even stopped forming yet.
Nooo, I would totally and completely read this and enjoy it and have very disconcerting protective feelings about Louis and his friendship with Harry D:. And I really actually wish someone would address something like this in fic!
(and I completely completely agree on being mortified that they flat-out ask these questions that are essentially about Louis being gay on the regular and it makes me want to crawl into a hole on behalf of fandom.)
oh, yay! I was like, "this is the most boring, depressing idea for a fic ever," so I feel better now.
And omg, yes, I worry for Louis and his frustrations, and how clearly it bothers him because of Eleanor, and I worry about what it says about fandom that we apparently have the power to change the narrative to a degree that it affects what actually gets said to them (although I think that's also a function of time and context, because we were writing all the fic in the world ten years ago, and no one was asking boyband members if they were gay on national TV.) And I have all sorts of thoughts about how Harry's heterosexuality is unassailable in a way that Louis' isn't, but that's a dissertation story.
