My life this week:
- It probably says something about me that part of the reason I feel no shame in not having Friday night plans is that I dread the amount of backreading I'd have to do on my Tumblr dash.
- Quals reading lists continue to coalesce, which means my previous count of 90-100 books has been bumped up to 110-120 by January. This is along with the ~30 basic ones for my diss, because I'm trying to do my proposal at the same time. Why the fuck did I want to do this again?
- I'm also freaking out because I realized once again that I have no fucking clue what I'm doing with my diss. My undergrad advisor once told me that I'm the kind of writer who has to actually write to know what they're trying to say, a statement that kept me from completely losing my shit trying to write my MA thesis. But this is 80,000 words that has to have a shape and a coherent argument, and I keep saying, "Why [did One Direction cross over to the American market/were NSYNC so damn sparkly/does NKOTBSB have a way bigger audience than a lot of other 'nostalgia' acts]?" and realizing that my current answer is, "No fucking clue!" and then freaking out.
- I still can't tell the One Direction kids apart. But I'm reading porn about them anyway. Possible liveblogging of my reactions to the concert DVD may follow later this weekend. Behind a cut, don't worry.
- Rod and I found this out of the way comic shop and I bought
Young Love, a collection of vintage romance comics. I'm way too excited to read it.
- I've fallen in love with a fic!
A Change in the Weather by
cacophonylights (Glee, Kurt/Sebastian). Oh my God, it's all snark and slow buildup, in that way that you only really find in fanfic and romcoms, where you know the ending so it's all about the execution of getting there. And it executes it beautifully.
