In news of "really? Like, really?" I was contacted by a librarian on the other side of the country who created an apparently really popular collection of interracial romance novels in her library. It's gotten popular enough that she wants to hold a talk about the genre, because patrons in her system are so excited about it. And she wants me to come give the talk.
And I was like, "what? what?" I get that my MA thesis is one of the only easily found academic treatments of the subject, but I haven't read an interracial romance novel since like 2005, when I finished my thesis. And the genre has exploded since then. There are hundreds of books now, and when I wrote my thesis there were about thirty. Plus, I want to say, "This is clearly a bad idea, because you have read my thesis and you still think I'm intelligent and articulate enough to lead a talk on anything. I doubt your judgment and taste."
