When you are on a research team you have a special relationship with the professor that differs from the normal college experience. He knows your business, he asks about your business, and if he is the particular professor I have, he busts on you about your business. All in good fun. And tonight he took us all out in the party mobile (aka family minivan) to a karaoke bar in the middle of nowhere, or bfe land as he likes to say. Beforehand he met us at one of the team member's house, where we had grilled out and started pre-partying. mmmmm, grilled food. Upon arrival, the twelve of us filled the previously empty room with enough noise and chaos to bring at least one group of curious onlookers. Even I, who has done karaoke only once in a huge group and swore I wouldn't do it because I'm shy, was coerced into singing a few. all with others of course - ain't no mountain, kokomo, what I got, I love rock and roll, and another I can't recall. Blame that on jose. cuervo. make no mistake, I was no drunken fool, although I would say there was at least one of those amongst the group. There was a lot of dancing and rump shaking involved. You haven't lived until you have been on a dancefloor shaking your butt on your professor to the tune 'back that ass up'. (tag teaming for the double heather accosting of course). Anyway, it was an even better time than I was expecting.
A note again on the yyy show. Most of the time at shows you can see that moment where everything clicks, everything comes together just the way it's supposed to. You can see it in the faces of the band members, in the way they react to one another, in the way they play. I can physically feel it happen. I don't know if this happens to other people, but it's fantastic. uncontrollable. For the yyy show it was right before encore, during the song 'turn into'. Karen broke into a huge grin and I was close enough to see the physical change in her mannerisms. Despite the reported fued between her and Nick they seemed to interact well, as much as Nick's ways can be deemed interaction. It was an amazing moment, one I feel evertime I hit a certain spot in that song while listening to it.
I was supposed to see this band at school tonight but unfortunately missed it since we stayed out later than I expected. So in honor of them, here's the song...
