13. Justice Hall (Mary Russell/Sherlock Holmes), Laurie R. King. As always, King's characters and settings absolutely shine. Holmes and Russell, of course, but also the secondary, tertiary, and incidental characters, are well-crafted individuals that are interesting to read about. Yeah, I was disappointed in Water for Elephants too. Bah. It could have worked as a YA novel, but I still wouldn't have liked it. I just would have understood what it was there for.

Speaking of YA, I forget, have you read the Hunger Games series?

I felt like it was a waste of my time. I really, really, really wanted to like it. I really, really, really couldn't bring myself to do so.

Speaking of the Hunger Games series, a friend of mine just posted muchlove about it on Facebook - I suppose I will have to add them to my to-read list!

Yeah, they are really worth it. I mean, like the Uglies series I imagine they are better if you're actually a young adult (there's a surprising amount of focus on describing clothes, which I find totally charming but not everyone would) but it's also very interesting dystopian political commentary! And fun to read.
