On June 5th, 2012, I'll have been involved in fandom for 14 years.
Started with the Buffyverse, then moved to the CSIverse. Dabbled in Harry Potter and Supernatural and House MD and NCIS and Bones and Castle and Eureka and Criminal Minds and Numb3rs and Heroes and Hawaii Five-0 and The Mentalist and Without A Trace and Doctor Who and Sherlock at least once, some multiple times. Crossed most of these over with at least one other fandom at some point. Settled into the Bleach fandom for a long stretch. Currently writing great big mounds of Wholock fic.
I've written close to 1,000 pieces of fanfic in this time. Maybe more; the site housing my Buffyverse fic got hit with a virus and most of the Yahoo Groups where I posted are gone. I think the last count was a little over 500 stories. But I've written at least 300 CSIverse fic, including a 60 fic series on Danny/Lindsay. Written over 100 Bleach fic, not counting my AUs. Written so many crossovers I've honestly lost count. I create AU series at the drop of a hat, and this is something I'm proud of. I've written over 30 Wholock fic that have been published on Livejournal, with ten still waiting. I have a very long list of WIPS from fandoms I've left. Maybe one day I'll finish them or donate them to those still in the fandom.
I've made wonderful friends on Yahoo Groups and Livejournal and now Tumblr. I am grateful for the people who have come into my life because of fandom; some of them are my best friends, people I trust with my life. Some friendships have remained strong through the years; some fell apart quickly, and some died a sputtering death of neglect. But all the people I've met have left a mark, and I'm glad I've met them.
I've run some great Yahoo Groups. I've run some great Livejournal communities. I still run a few, even in fandoms I'm not active in anymore. I love comeraderie with other fans. I like having a place I can go where I feel welcome and loved and can go "OMG, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way!" There's still many fandoms where I'm in the shipping minority. I always try and create a safe place for fans like me, the ones who love the crossovers and the "weird" pairings and the minor characters. I love being around my fellow fans. The highlight of my year is going to Comic Con International in San Diego, with a nerdy shirt on, looking for my kin.
I've been a fangirl for 14 years in a little less than three weeks, and you know what? I wouldn't trade it for the world. LONG LIVE THE FANGIRLS AND FANBOYS!
