Title: A Summer in Delphi
Author(s): rotrude
Artist: spacealtie
Pairings/characters: Merlin/Arthur
Rating: NC-17
Word Count: 86,000
Warnings: Because of the temporal setting, homophobia, both at personal and institutional level, is portrayed and is a main theme throughout.
Summary: 1952, after divorcing, Arthur is cut adrift, at a loss, and compelled to face very personal issues for the first time in years. As he struggles to come to terms with himself and his past, he embarks on a journey to Greece. It's a quest that to him becomes synonymous with finding himself. On his journey of acceptance and discovery, he meets Merlin Emrys, a young travel writer who appears to be as open as Arthur's can't be.
Disclaimer: The characters don’t belong to me; they are the property of the BBC and Shine.
Author's notes: Oh, I've got a lot of lovely people to thank, so let me start. Thanks to camelittle for betaing this, and all her clever suggestions. Thanks to side_steppings for the flow consult. A heap of thanks also goes to archaeologist_d and to brunettepet for making Vivian and her husband sound a bit more Bostonian. A super loving shout out goes to my artist for this fest, spacealtie, because she was a thorough inspiration. Thank you so much for your beautiful work! It was my great motivator. Final aside: Sorry for being a few hours early with the posting, but I'm travelling and wouldn't be able to in the morning.
Artist's notes: first of all, I'd like to say a big, big thank you to Rotrude for being an amazing human being and to have accepted to work with me. This collaboration has been so exciting, and inspiring ! I only wished I would have been good enough and quick enough to draw the dozens of pictures that have been on my mind while I was reading her amazing fic - and to do it more justice. Seeing the writing process from the inside has been a fascinating experience.A big thank to Alby, too, for being a great beta - and for all the awesome people of Merlin chat for the morale support and good laughs :)
