the nicest thing
my life has changed dramatically since the last time i wrote. i broke up with nader, which i had been contemplating since the summer of 2010 and seriously considering since summer of 2011. why did i wait so long? because his dad died and i felt like i owed it to him to try. so i forced myself to live in a pint-sized studio with 4 cats and a sweet, idealistic muslim that treated me like a queen and refused to believe anything was ever wrong.
the summer of 2010 was also when i met leland. he was hired on to be the education director at my work, right after i was hired as the program director. the first night we went out was also the first time i dumped nader. leland and i danced with our faces touching all night. he told me he wanted us to be together. but i said no, and went home to nader.
leland and i became best friends. our desks were next to each other. we spent every day together.
a month after my last livejournal post i kissed leland at a night club during a professional conference in vegas. nader was there, but he didn't make it out with us that night because he was stoned and running late, as usual. i did what i thought was the right thing. i told nader the truth and stopped speaking to leland.
but after a couple of months, leland and i were back to normal. he got into a phd program in english at penn state. i was devestated to learn he would be moving across the country in july.
in may, we went out with coworkers. he told me it was our last chance to be together. i had been silently realizing it the entire time. we stayed up all night holding hands. a week later, i ended my near 4-year relationship with nader.
leland and i spent the best summer of our lives together. we saw jenny lewis play in big sur. we went to san diego with his family, the river with my family, the oc fair, las vegas, museums, aquariums, restaurants, etc. etc. etc.
in august we drove across the country together to move him to state college. we stayed in vegas, visited national parks in utah, spent a couple days with my old roommate in boulder, saw rilo kiley's beginnings in omaha, spent an INCREDIBLE 2 days in chicago - our new favorite city, slept a couple hours in cleveland, and finally made it to penn state.
we've spent the last few months visiting each other. we are currently making plans for another road trip. this time, i will be making the move the move to state college. i am terrified, but so excited to start a new chapter in my life.
