Saturday was my birthday. It started off really sucking. I overslept and forgot to take my medication so we had to go back for it and at that point withdrawal was well under way. Too hungry to wait for the planned lunch, got bagels (which my tmj ADORES) on the go. Because of all this I totally missed
VOX: Showcasing American Composers FREE future of opera thing. This was sad-making. I desperately wanted to go to
Alice's Tea Cup, particularly for the scones, but I didn't make reservations and the wait was 45 minutes which would've made me miss
Rorie Kelly. That was not an option. So I sat on the steps of an upper west side brownstone and cried for awhile about the unfairness of life.
This didn't really make me feel better.
I kind of wanted to die but instead we went to see Rorie at a bar in the East Village. I was supercranky but she played a song for me and I had 2 vodka tonics and then I felt better. I got her CD ('cause apparently she has one now which was a happy surprise) and she invited us to tag along to the next bar they (her, her boyfriend and bf's friends) were going to (for drinking this time, not performing) which made me feel supercool.
After awhile we went to
Veselka (which I highly recommend!), but Rorie was sick so it was just me, Nick, and a male 30-something groupie whose name I don't remember. They talked about computers a lot and I ate 11 perogies (3 sweet potato, 8 cheese) with sour cream and apple sauce and drank 1 vanilla egg cream. Stumbled into bed after 2am. Very weird for me to not be in pjs until that late.
Then today I had some cannoli cake, went home, went out with Ali John and Steph and, um, now I'm here.
I am under-rested, have not started my Queer Studies final paper which is due Tuesday, and am kicking myself for not bringing
Something Rotten with me because I finished
The Well of Lost Plots last night and am DYING to be caught up in the
Thursday Next series. I swear I saw someone on the subway reading
First Among Sequels even though it's not being published until July.
Ugh, can you believe it's almost midnight and I'm STILL not in pajamas?! I don't like this trend.
