Who: David and Rachel.
Where: Meeting at Daniel's house.
What: That previously-discussed "getting to know you" thing.

At the promised time, there's an ebullient rap on Daniel's front door. Rachel stands just outside, bundled against the cold. The collar of her coat is turned up and zipped all the way to the top, so that her nose and mouth are shielded from the wind, and her hands are jammed into her pockets.

She'd been a bit nervous about venturing out, after her confession. On the walk down the dirt road from her house to Daniel's, it hit her, somewhat bitterly, that that must be how Adam feels these days--worried someone might come after him for what he's done. No one was about, though. She made her way down the road and up to Daniel's porch without seeing another person.

There are lights on inside, so clearly someone's home, undoubtedly some combination of the boarders Daniel's taken in. Rachel waits for someone to come answer the door. She hopes David's remembered, and will come greet her himself, but she chides herself for her nerves--she'd face whatever anyone had to say about what she'd done, and her confession.

It was far easier, however, to believe words of encouragement when they were text on a computer screen. Would they hold out, in person?

She shifts her weight to her other foot, but then straightens up at the sound of footsteps on the other side of the door.
