It's the first time she's felt this way since her arrival. Homesickness probably has held off because Donatello, Casey ( Read more... )

...I'd been homesick since I first arrived, but it's been quite a while since then. I can't say it ever goes away completely, but you find ways to adjust.

Normally, I can cope with stuff, really; it's just been a little tough lately.

My name's April, by the way.

I can imagine. This place is so very disorienting at first.

I'm Rydia. I run the Welcome Center in town, so I'm used to answering questions and helping new people settle in around here.

Rydia; that's a pretty name. I guess I was lucky; I had friends here when I landed, and they gave me the scoop on this place. Oh, and I read the guide a couple of times, too. Have you been here long?

I've been here for about a year and a half. Maybe a little over that, now?

I was lucky to have friends already here when I arrived, too. It really helped, especially since there was no Welcome Center at the time.

Welcome Center, huh? That's a really good idea. I haven't been there, yet.

...I'd like to help out here, too, if I can; I just don't know how I'd be able to yet.

Well, I can't take the credit for Welcome Center. A woman named Martel got the place going; I've only been running it since she returned home.

Hm...do you know any healing or medicine? The clinic's always looking for people to help there.

No. I mean, beyond basic first aid? I don't have a lot of skill in that area. I'm really good at computers, hacking, stuff like that. I learned how to hotwire a car.

Not very useful here...

I've heard about cars from other people but no, we don't have those. As for healing, there's a local spirit willing to teach that. There are other spirits and types of magic, too, but that's the easiest to learn.

Oh! Um...you really think I could do something like that? I've...never talked to a spirit before.

I don't see why not. Anyone can learn, though interacting with a spirit here takes some getting used to. They don't communicate with words, but rather feelings and sometimes visual images instead.

I bet Master Splinter could teach me, if he were here. Or Leonardo...Do you think anyone here would teach me how?

I could, depending on the spirit. Raine, the schoolteacher, also has bonded with a lot of the spirits. She even has a class for that.

[The thought of communing with spirits was a little disconcerting, but kind of cool at the same time.]

Lemme think about it, okay? In the meantime, if you need any programming done, I'm your girl!
