Now evacuees are facing eviction from the hotels they were forced into when FEMA and the Feds refused to use HUD's very effective Section 8 (housing voucher) program, but are unable to provide any other alternative. The back story, as you all know, is the Bush administration's concerted efforts to destroy HUD, thus doing their level best to avoid letting it work at all, much less in a situation where it would demonstrate it's capacity to provide services perfectly suited to this emergency.
