Journal #202 Prom 5/1/2015

Oh boy, where do I even begin? I think this post is going to be long, so let's see how it goes. I got a couple of stories, thoughts, and emotions to discuss. Anyways, now let's start talking about prom.

The journey of prom actually started around the beginning of second semester senior year (late, I know right?). I only say that this is late because I really didn’t get any feelings for any women until the beginning of second semester. Anyways, I started asking myself, who do I have feelings for? I started to think about it and my choices: Elizabeth (Liz), Nitya, and Antonia. Going into the second semester of Senior I started to get a huge crush on Liz. The only problem is Jackson pretty much has the death grip on her. I was strongly going to ask Nitya, but then she got taken as well. I was thinking who else I could ask and I thought of Antonia. Right when I thought I was going to ask her, she got taken at the last minute. After everyone got taken away from me, I thought to myself that I could always go alone and not worry about not having a date. Two days before prom, my Dad asked me about the prom situation. I told him that I had three acceptable choices to prom and that all of them were taken. My Dad then shared his prom experience and convinced me to try to find another female classmate that does not have a date. After he told me this, I decided to make a Facebook post on my class' Facebook group. The post was relatively popular on the Facebook page, but no one seriously responded. With that, I decided to go alone to prom.

My first stop was to take some pictures at the Crambrook Art Museum with most of the Robotics people plus a few other. I met up with the other two bachelors at the photo shoot, Rory and Jaewon, and we left without taking any kind of picture. We actually got kicked off the property because the group that I was in didn't have a permit. After we got kicked off the property, I decided to go with some other members of my group to the other photoshoot area which was located at St. Hugo Church near my school. There were a lot more people there than at Crambook because it was more of an entire class event than a smaller group. I and the bachelor boys took some photos together. I also had the oportunity to meet Phil's date to the prom and take a couple of pictures. Once I noticed taht it was 6:45, I decided to leave for the prom dance. I had the chauffeur Haroon to the prom because he did not have a ride. While I was in the car with him, I started to realize how much of a pervert he is. While I was ridding in tihe car, he would not stop making perverted jokes. I guess I do that a good amount but I have my limits. As we were pulling into the gated parking area. I got to see Tristan and his date start walking to the prom venue, the Crowfoot. I park and then start walking into the venue to find and talk to Tristan.

I already knew a little bit about Arrie before I met her in person because Tristan would always talk about her when since she was his middle school crush. After I was done talking, I headed upstairs to see what kind of seats I could find. I was actually waiting on where Liz's group was going to sit so I could sit with them. I thought that Prom could be a somewhat good time to talk with her. Then I thought to myself, "She is probably has a close eye on Jackson". Instead, I decided to sit with Tristan and his Arrie.

I started talking with Arrie more just to find out more about her. She's actually a really cool gal: cheerful personality, mentally adept, socially smart, she has a lot going for her. She is also attending the University of Michigan like me in the fall. You know what's strange? Arrie actually has a boyfriend and Arrie is still going to prom with Tristan. My friends and I actually make fun of this strange pairing saying things such as "arranged marriage" but that's actually another related story.

After talking with Tristan a bit, the food was prepared on the upper floor of the venue. The food was absolutely horrible! I think I ate only a couple bites before throwing away my plate. This isn't that significant since most I don't large portions of food anyways. After dinner, the prom transitioned into the dancing phase of the prom.

The rest of the prom was pretty normal, but being the observant person I am I experienced and saw some interesting things during prom. The first thing that I noticed was the fact that there wasn't many close friends at the prom. The closest friends that I had at the prom were Amit, Phil, and Tristan D. Calvin, Inseong, and Spencer didn't go for various reasons. I was almost gulled to Rory and Jaewon, but I let Rory stay with Jaewon while I left quietly. The second thing I noticed was Margaret's prom date. I swear to god, I think that Margaret and her boyfriend where cuddling with each other in the back corner for like 40 minutes straight. That was an absurd amount of time to be cuddling (in public mind you). I kind of wanted to move closer to them to see how'd they react, but that was none of my business, though. Sean and Jenna became prom king and queen which I didn't expect. We really didn't have enough time to vote since it was really only one day. I would think like Jack/Allie or Jackson/Elizabeth would win. Going down For Real is such a great song. It was probably the most played song at prom actually. I just like listening/dancing to it because the beat is really good. I actually requested the song "Blurred Lines" and everyone left the stage in protest. To be honest, I had to chuckle a little after this happened. Feeling a little guilty, I went back up the DJ to say I was sorry, but he didn't need an apology because he actually likes that song.

One story that I have to share from prom is interesting as well. To understand this story you need to know the background and building up to the story. I was taking a break from dancing and sitting in my seat upstairs near Robby's prom date who was African American (yes, I have to mention the race) and staring at the dancing floor below me. Some people started noticing me and started waving me to come down. This continued to happen until they started chanting "ADD-I-SON, ADD-I-SON!” So, I danced for a little bit and decided to finish up my glass of water. While walking past the dance floor, I noticed that a door leading outside was open. More importantly, I saw Jackson and Liz there. I wanted to talk to them and get some fresh air so I headed outside. To my surprise, Liz waved me over so I could talk to them (I think it's because I made eye contact with her, but I'm not sure). So Jackson starts with the statement, "I wonder how your prom date thought of you dancing on the stage" I was thoroughly confused by this because I had no prom date and I thought that most people knew this by now. He then followed up with the question, "Who is your prom date?” I actually threw the question back at him just as a joke and for me to think of how to respond to this. After he pointed to Liz the answer my question, I sat there in silencer for about an eon and said, "I don't have a date" Both of them were surprised by this so Jackson asks, "Wait, so the black girl next to you wasn't your prom date?" I then realized the misunderstanding. I told them that the black girl next to me was Robby's prom date and that I didn't have a date. I think it's funny because and African American would be one of my last choices to go to prom with me. Obviously, not many would know that, but I digress. Something else happened after this story as well. Lauren came up to me while I was sitting down outside and asked, "So Addison, why didn't you ask Eleanor to prom?" I responded with, "Wasn't she already taken pretty early?” I never thought about asking her actually, although she would have been nice to go to prom with.

I only have one last story about prom. I was on the dance floor when Darude - Sandstorm was being played and all of a sudden Rory starts grabbing me and saying "WHAT IS THE SONG NAME?” For those who don't know, that's a common YouTube comment on videos that use Sandstorm. I started running around and I got stopped by Eleanor and her group of friends. They started getting around in a circle and chanting "ADD-I-SON" again. I felt a little weird since I had no idea how to dance to this song. Eventually, Basil came in and started dancing with me (thank goodness). After that I took some pictures in the photo booth and started to leave the venue.

The rest of the night was pretty hard. First, I was almost crying when I was leaving prom. If you asked me right now, I have no clue why. Maybe it was because all of prom? Because this will be one of the last time that the Class of 2015 will have fun? Missing Liz? The world may never know. When I got home, I was pretty damn tired. My mom asked how prom was but I gave the half-assed, one-worded responses that I usually give my mom. My legs were fucking hurting for most of the night and it was hard to sleep. I also had to deal with my active mind after prom to try to go to sleep. I woke up in the middle of the night at 2 AM and still couldn't fall asleep. Eventually, I managed to fall asleep and have a good rest of the day.

This mostly sums up my prom experience. I don't think I will ever have an entry this long every again (maybe for the senior all night party or some other really huge even). I really did have a great time at prom and everyone that didn't go should be regretting it right now. That being said, peace out yall.
