John: There were things I needed to see. Things I had to understand.
Sarah: You understand them now?
John: I think so. I'm sorry I doubted you.
Sarah: John...
John: No, not you. Her.

She did lie to him. Sometimes, she lies to him. About important things. About things she's done. Things Sarah has asked her to do. About sneaking out at night. About glitches. Glitches that Sarah said were becoming a problem again. Because she wouldn't kill Riley. When Riley was a problem. When Riley made problems for them. When Riley made problems for John.

But she didn't kill Riley. She knew it would upset John, and she protected him. If Riley made him happy, made it less lonely to be John Connor, Riley stayed safe. Was essential. Wasn't expendable. But Sarah had been angry. Sarah had been angry, and then Riley had been upset. Gradually uset. Damaged. And she wasn't sure John saw it. She knew that Sarah saw it, and she mentioned it.

Another glitch, Sarah said. She didn't ask again.

And then Riley was dead. And there was blood. Riley was dead, and Sarah blamed her. John blamed her. John blamed her, didn't believe her when she said "I didn't kill her". "Don't play games with me," he said to her. "I wanna believe you, but sometimes you lie to me."

"Believe me."

But he didn't. Until he did. Until he did, "I'm sorry I doubted you," and she didn't understand.

She never understood.
