Today is my last day of work. It's all a bit surreal. When I walk to my desk this morning, low and behold my entire cube is FILLED with these yellow smiley face balloons (that someone had maticulously blown up one by one) and there were streamers everywhere and a boquet of these beautiful yellow iris flowers and a massive sign that says "BYE HEATHER". It's all so sweet.
At first, I thought it was the folks from my department, but they all looked as surprised as me. Then, I thought it was Patty Brown because there was a card on my desk from her. And then, I realized that it was the INTERNS....according to Katy Ray who helped blow up the balloons. I asked her who specifically and she said it was a boy intern, in particular.
Blake.
I never cease to be surprised! What a fantasic way to end my time at PF, knowing that I have established great relationships with people here and that people are going to miss me when I leave.
I did some prisoner letters for Phyllis in the morning and before I got started, she handed me a beautiful bag with a gold-leafed copy of A Secret Garden in it. She loves literature. And then she and Mike and Sue took me out to lunch at M and S Seafood and it was all very nice. I feel especially loved and appreciated and, despite all the challenges and frustrations, I really learned a good lot and got to 'build bridges' as Blake would say with folks who are different from me but one in the same in Christ.
Sigh.
It's always said to leave that place where you are comfortable for a place that takes getting used to. I went from comfortable Gordon to VERY uncomfortable Uganda....and then it was comfortable Uganda to uncomfortable PFM...and now it's comfortable PM to somewhat uncomfortable (mainly because I haven't been there in so long) Gordon again. But, ultimately, Gordon is the best place to be going, because everything is so familiar. I'm ready to slip back into community living and ready to learn and to fellowship and grow with people whom I love and who love me.
Wow I'm blessed....
