the beat assures I'll never see her again
the rhythm mixing with the lines in her head
the many miles of sleep
but we sleep no more
the many miles of sleep
but we sleep no more
the heat blistering the folds in her bed
as no hands come to rest on the cold of her back
her eyes no more lightning
and no thunder anymore
the miles of sleep the bottles lining the road
marking the best examples
of the ravages of war
there's no fool left beside her
riding lines anymore
cause he's poor broke and dumb
couldn't keep up no more
left miles behind another dream turned dead
in the many miles of sleep
but she sleep no more
she's many miles left of sleep
but she sleep no more
I said to the Lord get your hands off the wheel
let me stand on my two feet and see how I feel
He says son are you sure
the road looks wet up ahead
there's ice all around don't want you breakin' your head
I say no and He lets go anyway
and I fall
into the miles of sleep
