Steve Buscemi is good at picking scripts. View of a depressed fuckup.
Although no Tree's Lounge, this movie was aparently made from this guy Jim's life. He did "invent" a few of the plot items, it's not a reinactment, but most of the stuff did come from his life, and was shot in the same place, so capturing the truth was a big part of it. They shot it in his house, used his actual family's names, everything. They even used his neices as themselves.
Jim wrote the movie, and it's been produced, so I guess he's doing a little better now, but anyway, it was a good movie.
Casey Aflec, Liv Tyler, my favorite: Kevin Corrigan.
And best of all, it was shot on a camera that's significantly worse than mine. A few breeds back in the panasonic lineage. What does this mean? It means my work can look better than this does, and this is a real movie. Real actors and director, the works.
InDigEnt (Independant Digital Enertainment) is really into this whole making digital a legitimate form thing. It's great. Inspiring.
