I've just watched the episode! OMG mixed feelings all over the place and all that, gosh.
I mostly wanted to agree with this: "Clearly, he’s really gonna be super evil post hell or something. " Not sure it's gonna happen, but that's really all I want for season 6. Give me that and I'll shut up about everything else I don't like, I SWEAR.
I cringed through the whole Sam&Dean badfic montage, I admit it, but then I remembered that this is filtered through Chuck's lens, so it kinda makes sense that it has to be unbearably cheesy, LOL. When they were looking at the stars I looked the other way, it was just WAY TOO MUCH. But hey, I kinda appreciate that after all this the writers had the courage to show what this show really is all about: the love story. It IS a love story, and it's not Wincest fans being crazy anymore, WE ARE IN FACT IN THE RIGHT IF WE SHIP DEAN AND SAM. So, I thought that was a nice touch, among the cheesiness. If they weren't brothers I wouldn't have doubts they are a couple in the show.
Differently from most, I liked Chuck as god. Tbh I had called it way long ago...it was the only possible outcome IMO. It couldn't be a new character, because no one would have cared at this point, and Chuck made a lot of sense, being the omniscient writer. I thought it was clever, as far as SPN writers can be clever. And well, Kripke even managed to insult us and himself while he was at it, I don't know how I feel about that yet.
Dean/Cas was dropped I suppose, I don't hope for more, I'll just live in the past from now on when I want to ship them...but IMO Cas had some nice scenes here. And I loved that in human mode he showed a bit of fear in front of Lucifer...
I'll definitively write more about this in my lj later! :)
I think mixed feelings is the best way to describe the overall consensus for this episode but then maybe that was always going to happen with the finale.
I'd quite like evil Sam in season 6 too. Like properly evil, not just slightly not so nice. It would hopefully bring something new to the show and Dean and Sam's relationship.
LOL! Glad i'm not the only one who cringed. Even through Chuck's viewpoint it was pretty bad! And the star gazing..oh dear! I'm not sure how much I can agree on what you said about the love story though. I mean, yes it is a love story but it's a love story between brothers and even if they weren't brothers I couldn't see them as a couple at all personally because (asides from this star gazing) I see no romance or even much sexual tension between them. But I do certainly agree that this show is ALL about the relationship between Dean and Sam . It's what it's always been about and always will be about.
I will never like Chuck being God and I won't go through why again, LOL, but, that being said, I understand what your saying about "who else could it have been?" I think my problem is that I didn't want God to show up at all. I wanted them to stick with the absent father thing and not have hin show up and magically fix everything as he did (although I will never be angry that he brought Cas back to life :P)
Dean/Cas has steadily been getting more and more hard to ship and this just made it even worse. At some points there's so much chemistry between them and they make jokes or have hearts to hearts and I love them. Then at other times it seems Dean doesn't care at all, or, like last night, even that Cas doesn't care much either.
I absolutely LOVED human!Cas. Everything about him. Including his reaction to Lucifer which was brilliant! So, yeah..angel Cas again..makes me a little sad :(
