A couple years ago, I visited Top Secret Recipes once a week. The site has "clones" of restaurant recipes for a fee, and once a week, they post a new recipe. It'd used to be this recipe was free for one week, but now only about 1/5 of the featured weekly recipes are free. And so I have stopped frequenting the site.
The chili recipe below came from Top Secret Recipes (I believe it's their version of Wendi's Chili), and I only tweaked it slightly; I changed the meat, made it in a crock pot, changed the amounts of some of the spices. It was ridiculously good when I made it a few weeks ago. This was my first time using ground turkey, and it turns out, I like it! Unfortunately, I didn't have any fresh veggies on hand, so everything was out of a can. Next time, I'll try and use at least fresh tomatoes, and maybe even dried beans instead of canned.
The chili is great topped with shredded cheddar cheese andd served with a large piece of cornbread and a side of mixed veggies.
Ingredients
1 lbs ground turkey, browned
1 15-oz can tomato sauce
1 15 oz can kidney beans, with liquid
1 15-oz can pinto beans, with liquid
1/2 cup diced onion
1 15-oz can diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 1/4 tsp cumin
1 1/2 Tbsp chili powder
2 tsp black pepper
1 1/2 tsp red pepper
1 tsp salt
3/4 cup water
Directions
1. Place all ingredients in the slow cooker, starting with the ground beef and ending with the spices and water
2. Stir
3. Cook on low for 6 hours
