The Boys are Back In Town

May 02, 2010 23:06

A mind-numbing two years have passed since my last post. Two of the worst years I can remember, for me personally (bereavement, business worries and injury have all taken a toll) and probably for a lot of other people, since the recession started. But I called this blog misery distraction patrol for a reason. We shall divert ourselves with shiny ( Read more... )

I didn't get too see the play because my friends and family don't approve of Ian T_T But I don't think I missed out on much because I hated the novel lol. Well, "hate" is too strong a word: I did like Ian's character but he was wasted in such a bad story and awful writing...So, "hate" is the appropriate word after all lol

Aw, Flu you're a sweetie pie! ;) I feel so happy to have inspired you! Usually I just get on people's nerves ;p I want to see what you've done when you're ready! Your icons always look very professional so I'm sure the drawings will look great too :)

It's not the dissertation itself but the whole attitude towards art in our university ie what is said about the art is more important than the art itself, which is ridiculous. To prove my point, I wrote my last essay with pure disdain* with all the kind of rubbish they like to hear and they thought the essay was brilliant and "written with a real interest in the subject"...I was part amused and part angry lol.

*(get me with the big word :P )

Oh noes! Ian disapproval sucks! I saw it twice (I just HAD to go back) at the Lowry in Manchester. It's all wacky and arty inside. No autograph this time, there was a big queue outside the stage door.

That's because of Photoshop, not me! OMG, if you want to scare yourself I'm on deviantart. I'm not good enough to be playing with the big boys and girls yet but I thought that internet shame would force me to improve. Please bear in mind I have NEVER drawn anything, ever, so I'm starting from scratch.

HAHA!! Even when you're making fun of them they're too stupid to notice! You'll be fine, only 1 year to go!

*Hides from scary big word*

Flu, one of the only useful things uni has taught me is that you shouldn't say anything bad about your work before you even show it. Considering that you've never done this before, your drawings are excellent!!!

The one I'm looking at now, "D9 Wikus with Gun", you keep putting yourself down for the drawing of the gun. It looks fine!!! Guns and other mechanical stuff are very hard to draw (I find it difficult to draw) but your's looks convincing to me, and you've got the guy's arms and hands in the right places! ;) I don't know anything about this movie but I like the drawings: the comments on all of the drawings are positive, and I agree with them ;)

I have to say, the A Team one is my favourite lol. Especially Sharlto because I can tell that you spent the most time looking at him ;p I love his face!!! And the cigar guy is just hilarious! The only change I'd make to Mr.T is to make him a bit more tough-looking - he's been on the Snickers bars for a while ;)

10 out of 10 :)

So what if you use Photoshop? You're obviously using it properly: I can tell that you've taken colour, text and placing of objects into consideration whenever you do an icon. You don't just slap things together or use effects for no reason. As long as you have an appreciation for doing things by hand (using pencil, paint etc) and have respect for art, it's fine to use a medium that you're comfortable with. Your icons look classy and I stand by that. ;)

That's nice of you. I know you prefer to do things by hand but do you use the computer much for art? I remember your CoV icons, were they drawn in Photoshop or by hand? Do you do much in the way of mixed media or 'installations'?

Are you on deviantart btw?

Sorry this has turned into twenty questions!! I hope you don't mind!

Lol it's okay! I use Photoshop for colouring and editing but I really should learn more about it. I might have a look at that link you have about how to make icons.

I love painting but I haven't done it in ages! I shudder when I hear the word "installation" lol because it always makes me think of random junk put together on a table (the fabulous exhibit I saw last night on the show about the Tate Modern...)

I'm so happy that you took the time to look at my scribbles!! Yay, I get an expert opinion!! Thank you so much! You're really kind :)

District 9 is kind of violent and grim but Sharlto was such a cutie that I had to draw him ;) I feel better that other people find mechanical stuff hard, it's not just me.

The A-Team was meant to be a draft for a full-length version but I haven't gotten round to it yet. I ought to get it done before the film comes out. You can see the drawing improve from left to right! As Mr.T might say, I pity the fool who draws me with a bulbous head.

It was no trouble at all: a pleasure! :) I can't wait to see what you do next!

It's hard putting all those small pieces together to make a credible gadget but you get the hang of it. I did eventually by looking at other drawings of mechanical stuff. The key is to be really observant.

This thread is getting a bit long lol! Do you want to email or should we just carry on here? I don't mind, either way!

It's the best! WHY was I away so long? I'm missd you! I've got to get my email account sorted. I keep forgetting the password (blame it on my age dearie!) It's the email on my profile now; can't get into the old one.

You're right; look at small parts of mechanical things, then put them together and OBSERVE. Your icons would be awesome - your traditional art is amazing. I love that picture you did of Ian as Father Anderton; it's not only detailed, you really captured the atmosphere of the play. Do you still go to the Yahoo group?

It's been nice to help my little nephew A out with his drawing; he needs a bit of encouragement sometimes.

I'm missd you too! ;p Is the poor English part of the aging process? JK! We're getting old, Flu! :(

It's about time I did something with that icon. I didn't even like that Zelda game, just the Wolf! I've been struggling to get inspired recently but I will do something when I get the energy! Why thank you! :)

I still go to the Yahoo Group but not as often because of uni work ¬_¬ Also, because I'm trying to wean myself off Ian. Ian is amazing and I would go out with him in a second, but 3 years of loving a man I can never be with is getting kinda sad lol.

Have you tried emailing Yahoo? If you can't remember your password or secret answers, they can send you a new one if you send the correct personal info that's on the account.

Totally. You darn kids, with your sparkly vampires and your ipads... *waves walking stick* But srsly though, I hate being 'of age'. It' so unfair, guys can wait forever to grow up, girls have to get on with it. Sometimes I think men have everything stacked in their favour.

And I forgot - you already DID make some super cool icons - the South Park City of Vice ones!! They were the best!

Yup, tried that. The memory is failing me.

Oh yeah, aren't you *whispers* 30? *dodges walking stick* If it makes you feel better, I feel old too. I even moan about my own age group lol.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who thinks men have it better, because it's a fact. No periods, no pregnancy, no menopause, still look good even without make-up and nice clothes, don't even have to shave...Cheers, god/mother nature.

Hey, you're right, I can! And you did an excellent job of turning one into an animation! ;)

Hmmm. Have you tried navigating through their very complex Help section to the "password help" address? It's not the automated "reset password" system: an actual person emails you lol. They were very nice to me about it when I forgot my password. You have to get your account back, it has all our weird conversations on there! *reminisces*

By the way, I sent an email to your gmail address so you have mine. I don't know why I was being so questioning in the message when I knew who I was sending it to lol.
