Next Monday (Oct. 27) will be the last day for a couple of people.
Friday (Oct 31) will be the last day for a few more people.
After that, 2 will remain in the office to keep the basic services up and running.
I was chosen as one of them for a number of reasons.
1) I volunteered. Simply cause I wouldn't mind doing nothing and getting paid for it a little while longer.
2) I can answer phone calls. I do that now. So theres no change there. But I'm the only Spanish speaker in the office.
3) I'm well rounded. I've done everything from Scholarships to Financial Aid to putting together new contracts.
4) I'm an hourly employee. It'll be cheaper to lay off the salary folks and keep me around.
I still need to think about this, but I think they're gonna need an answer by next week.
The owner of the company has not been seen since July. She's never around because she hates confrontation. But somehow has plans to downsize the company from 7 people to 2 people for a few months and then have business pick back up.
I'm a bit smarter than that. If I'm one of the two that stays behind, I know it won't be for long.
If Shelley (owner) continues the path shes been taking, then we will never see her and she will, as always, get nothing done.
If she manages to start coming into the office every now and then, she will realize that it will take more than 2 people to run a business that consults more than 4,000 students.
We'll see how it goes next week.
