I've now seen Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows twice. I need to express my ~feelings. :D
Things I liked:
-The magic. I've had long involved discussions with my dad about the entire movie, and this is one of the things we touched on. I just loved it, because damn did it look good. I also liked how (most) of it was much more subtle in this movie. Rather than being like "omg look you guys it's magic!" this movie felt much more organic with it. My favorite bits were when Hermione is standing just inside her barriers and Scabior (the hot Snatcher) is sniffing her from the other side; the Apparating effect; that spell Hermione casts when they're running from the Snatchers that goes boom; and, well, I'm sure there's other stuff I'm not thinking of right now. But yeah. Awesome.
-The scene where Harry and Hermione danced. Omg. I know some people have been complaining about it, but really, I thought it was perfect and touching and such a good portrayal of their characters and what they mean to each other. Specifically, that that scene is so very, very open to interpretation. Personally, I watched it going 'really? they are so not just friends,' but I have always preferred Harry/Hermione over Ron/Hermine (seriously, I remember being like nine and reading the third book and telling my mom that Harry and Hermione were totally going to get married lol). But I know a lot of people take it as two young people who are very close and are sharing a happy moment in the midst of all the hardship and stuff. And there are other ways off taking it too. I just like that a lot.
-The cinematography. Seriously, this movie was gorgeous to look at. I loved the landscape shots, the lighting, just everything. It was like candy for my eyes. (I got out of the theater the first time and felt majorly dizzy, it was that intense.)
-Snape's whole scene at the beginning. Just. Alan Rickman. Omg. Another example of the magic bits that I loved. He came down all swoopy and smokey, then stalked out of the smoke, waved his wand at the gate and walked through it, then strode up those stairs like nobody's business. THAT CLOAK. Just awesome. And then the whole bit with Charity, where she's begging him and his face gives away NOTHING. JUST. AHALGKUYFAFALANRICKMAN. ♥
-Scabior. Just, Scabior. For one, he was pretty hot (reminded me of a certain Captain Jack Sparrow). For two, he was so fun to watch. Of course, I spent the entire both times I watched this film thinking that he was Fenrir Greyback, because he was doing the shit that Greyback is supposed to be doing. And I could not figure out why the director or whoever would change that. I've decided (who knows if I'm right) that it might be because Fenrir is such a scary, serious character, and the movie was already so dark and depressing and shit. They have to intersperse those moments of levity, or it just gets absolutely unbearable and the audience starts laughing at the wrong bits. So. Scabior serves the dual purpose of capturing them and being intimidating and shit, but also
Affably Evil enough that we get a bit of a break. Which, you know, now that I understand that it makes me feel a lot better. And you know, I'm not complaining. Like I said, hot. I don't get if he was supposed to be a werewolf too or whatever though, they didn't really say. Or, like, his name either. Hmm. (I hope he's in the next movie.)
-Bellatrix. Helena Bonham Carter was just perfect. God I love that woman. The bit where she volunteers to kill Harry, and then looks all nervous when Voldemort says no. Hermione's torture scene (omg intense btw, and wth is that hair for?). Just. Guh. This woman.
-The locket horcrux scene. Omg awesome. (Lol I even wrote fanfic for it, would you believe?)
-The whole ministry bit. Whoever played the polyjuiced!trio were just fantastic. And I absolutely loved the bit where Harry said "You're lying, Dolores. One mustn't tell lies."
Things I didn't like:
-Um. Idk. I know there was stuff, but for the most part I'm still caught up in the 'omg this movie, this movie.'
In other Harry Potter related news,
anythingbutgrey is hosting a Harry Potter Non-canon Ships Comment Ficathon, which everyone should go check out.
I even wrote fic! Which is kind of amazing, considering I haven't written anything properly in ages, and never at all for the HP fandom. The prompt was by
likeserendipity: horcrux!harry/horcrux!hermione, you have ghosts in your lungs; i taste them when we kiss. You can read it
here. :) I'll probably post it itself to this journal later.
And now I will link to all the commentfics I like, if only so I can find them later myself.
