Character Name: Afghanis-tan, aka Afghan

Character Age: Appears to be maybe seven or eight.

Personality: Afghan is a clumsy girl who wants to be self-sufficient, but is always getting into trouble. She's kind of a back luck magnet; trouble follows her wherever she goes. If she's not tripping over her own two feet and falling on her face, her crops are being eaten by birds or her house is getting burned down and invaded by evil stray cats. Her neighbors are constantly picking on her and bossing her around, but she always does her best to earn their favor anyway.
For a long time, Afghan has relied on the kindness of others to get by. Lately, though, she's trying to be more independent and resourceful on her own. She has a long way to go, but she's on the road to independence and self-sufficiency. She grows her own crops, and even had her own election recently! She's still very shy, though. She's never seen in public without a scarf over her hair, and she has trouble initiating conversation or asking others for help (though she'll accept it if given). Though she's getting better at it, standing up for herself is also something she's not very good at.
Afghan has a bit of a tendency to get starry-eyed for superheroes -- notably the tokusatsu hero Space Detective Tayariban, but anything else sufficiently cool and powerful and popular would have the same effect. She likes to play pretend, especially if she gets to be the hero who beats up the bad guys. But of course it's all a game, she would never actually want to hurt someone, and when she does by accident she always feels terrible.
And on the subject of television, Afghan prefers to watch TV than read. She doesn't read very well, and she can only write very basic words and sentences. It may be because of this that Afghan doesn't really talk. Sometimes words show up next to her in panels, but never in word bubbles. Like this, where her speech is treated the same as an animal's. I'm about 99% sure she can only say the word "Afu".
