why did you bawl from the spell of some old holy song some liar laughed as he composed?

architeuthis proves that being a language nerd is extremely contagious over the internet. I've adapted the fic preferences meme into this new shiny words in fic preferences meme.

+ Your fic length of choice

+ Words you particularly enjoy reading, writing, or saying

+ Your favorite erotic, sensual, or kinky words

+ Favorite words in dialogue (slang, swearing, dirty talk, etc.)
+ Squick words!
+ Common words in fic that just don't do it for you
+ Words you particularly like in a specific fandom
+ Your ultimate/ideal style of prose

+ Your fic length of choice
For a one-shot, I prefer stories that are over 5k, with 8-10k being ideal. Actually, any story that is completed but breaks LiveJournal's character length limit is going to make me a happy camper. If I'm in the mood for something longer, I like stories that are Big Bang length. I never click to read drabbles, and anything under 1k makes me raise my eyebrows unless it's comedy/parody. I really like getting into the emotional foreplay of a story, so story length is a big decider for me on what looks interesting.

+ Words you particularly enjoy reading, writing or saying
balderdash, haphazard, fraught, gewgaw, skitter, amaryllis, lightning, crackling, radiant, waylay, nebulous, squish, zing, dusklight, gambit, fathomless, galvanized, devotion, wreckage, furious, bullshit, denouement, marrow, detritus, hornswoggle, ridiculous, argent, devoid

+ Your favorite erotic, sensual, or kinky words

writhe, shove, shiver, pant, thrash, whine, skittish, flush, rough, shy, fumble, moan, sweet, filthy, cock (when available :D )

+ Favorite words in dialogue (slang, swearing, dirty talk, etc.)
fuck, dude, seriously, sweet, full-on, what, uhnn (and movie quotes and references, obviously). assbutt! douchenozzle

+ Squick words!
Perfect (insert noun, such as "abs"), Edward Cullenism, pearly (semen), entrance (for anus), completion (for getting something shoved into an orifice), "orbs/limpid pools/spheres" (oh God make it stop), "cum" as a verb, hell as a noun too. And as an adjective, which I have actually seen, jesus. Weeping cock, drilling eyes. Fear of the word cock: member, "organ of love", "root," "manhood," "maleness," "hardness." Weird metaphors for genitalia: wet rose of love, sword, chocolaty peaks (what?), love hole.

+ Common words in fic that just don't do it for you
Long descriptions of eye color or equating emotion with the iris. "Feather-light." "Nip" because a) it's overused and b) I immediately think of stoned cats. Most uses of the word "lover." Epithets, especially using non-characterizing characteristics! "The blonde," "the dark-skinned girl," "the younger man," etc. (if you're trying to draw attention to the fact that someone is say, an angel, sure, but otherwise these terms are just fucking annoying). "Come from looking at X." "Practically [some emotion]" or "almost [some emotion]" because it's so diffident ("practically snarling," or something, I will take. Verbs are all good.) Any time any person has Castiel (or analogous foreigner) say "as you say, [something colloquial]" because you don't adapt to a language by constantly pointing out how you're not adapted to it. SOULMATE. Apart from Xena-fandom I want to burn this word off the internet.

+ Words you particularly like in a specific fandom
disobedience, impatient, growl, revenant, ancient, grotesque, malevolent, ghost, weary, bruise, all kinds of light and dark imagery, catastrophe, incarnation, hesitate, smash, sacrifice, horny, punched, merciful, distraught, absolution, tension, body imagery (muscles, nerves, bones).

+ Your ultimate/ideal style of prose
I love descriptive prose that focuses on interiority of feeling and drawing out dazzling expansive metaphors rather than over-focusing on physical descriptions. I love rich action verbs like "dart" instead of "walk quickly," it's double plus good. Physical immediate writing and tense, continuous scenes where the author doesn't try to cheat me out of misunderstandings. Characters thinking in their head the way you might hear them talk, even if they might be too embarrassed to do so. When a writer doesn't avert his or her eyes, when we're put flush against whatever's happening. Um, haunting and interesting settings, unusual places, sweeping photographs painted visually - and pulls that against a memory or impression of something else. When writers have dialogue that fails to communicate, and when they don't underestimate the importance of body language, ha.

Mmmm, prose.

fuck you english, you could use insouciant maybe, meme meme meme, you mean my process?, shut up affably, do i dazzle you?, this entry needs more tags, i get all tingly when you take control, purple prose all in my mind, what kind of lame power is heart anyway, meaningless meaningful words
