Patrick plopped down on his bed and just laid there, not wanting to move. The mini-break that he actually had off from Fall Out Boys tours, he was in the studio with The Hush Sound helping to produce their new album.
Though, that’s what he’s been basically been doing since six this morning and all he wanted to do now was sleep. Which was what he totally planned on doing.
Then his phone rang.
From the ringtone, he knew it was Pete. And if Pete was calling right now, knowing that Patrick has been busy producing, it’s probably because he wanted something. Though with Pete, he never knew.
Grunting, he reached into the pocket of his jeans, pulling out his phone. He looked at the screen and it read ‘Pete’. He answered the phone and pulled it up to his ear.
“Hello?” his voice was low; you can definitely tell that he was tired.
“Patrick! Hey dude, what’s going on?” Pete’s voice was cheery.
“What do you want Pete?” Patrick could just tell.
“What?” Pete said, faking a hurt tone. “I can’t call you up and chat?”
“Of course you can, but, this is obviously not one of those moments since,” he paused to turn towards his alarm clock. “4:30 pm.” Okay, lost that argument. “Seriously, what do you want? I’m currently wanting to take a nap.”
Pete sighed, an obvious sign that he had given in. “Ash and I want to go out for our anniversary tonight...” he trailed off.
“...and you want me to baby sit?” Patrick picked up for him. He could just hear Pete grinning.
“You know me oh to well Pattycakes. So, can you be here around 6:30?”
Patrick sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. “Yeah, I'll be there.”
“Thanks dude!” Pete then hung up. Patrick hung up, dropping his phone next to him on the bed. “I'm never going to get any sleep am I,' he mumbled to himself and got up, getting ready to head over to Pete's.
---------
Patrick knocked on the front door and stepped back waiting for it be opened. He rocked back and forth on his feet, eyes looking at the door. The door opened a few seconds later and revealed Ashlee, wearing a basic black dress, and a big grin on her face.
“Patrick!” she practically squealed and gestured for him to come inside. Patrick smiled and entered the house. Ashlee pulled him into a hug after closing the door and Patrick quickly returned it.
“It's so good to see you!” Ashlee said after they broke the hug.
“You too! It's been a while,” Patrick said, smiling. Ashlee grinned and walked over to the stairs.
“Pete! Patrick's here!” She yelled up. They heard a door open and some footsteps. “Be down in a minute!” came Pete's voice. The door again, more footsteps and then the sound of Pete coming down the stairs. When Pete came into view he was wearing black dress pants, a royal blue dress shirt with a black jacket and in his arms was baby Bronx. Patrick smiled as he watched transfer the baby to Ashlee and was completely surprised when he was pulled into a Pete-hug.
"Dude, it's great to see you!" Pete said, giving Patrick a squeeze and pulled away.
"I just saw you last week, Pete," Patrick said, chuckling slightly.
"I know, but still," Pete shrugged. "Thank you so much for doing this on such short notice. We really appreciate it."
Patrick nodded. "It's really no problem. You guys need to go out and celebrate," Patrick said as Ashlee walked over to him and he took Bronx. He smiled and took Bronx's tiny hand in hos own.
Ashlee grinned and walked over to Pete. "Ready to go?" Pete nodded and took one of her hands, leading her towards the door. "Alright," Pete began, turning towards Patrick. "You know all the emergency numbers, you know mine and Ash's cell numbers and the restaurant's number is on the refrigerator. We should be back before midnight."
Patrick smiled. "Pete, don't worry. I have everything under control and will call you if anything goes wrong." Patrick pulled the door open for them them. Pete leaned over and planted a kiss on Bronx's forehead and smiled. Patrick followed them out the door. He stood on the doorstep watching Pete and Ashlee make their way to the car.
He took Bronx's arm, waving it around slightly. "Say bye bye," he said, his voice slightly higher. Pete and Ashlee waved as they drove past the two and out of the driveway. Patrick sighed and looked at Bronx, who in return turned his head to look at Patrick. Patrick looked into those tiny eyes and grinned. "It's just you and me little guy," he turned and began to head back into the house.
Heading into the living room, Patrick took a quick glance at the clock, which read '7:10'. Pete had mentioned something before about Bronx beginning to get tired around eight, so a little less than an hour to entertain a baby. Shouldn't be that hard, should it? He placed Bronx down in the walker and took a seat on the floor in front of him. He stared at Bronx, trying to think of something to do.
Bronx stared back.
"What do you think we should do little guy?" Patrick mumbled. He's never really actually baby sat except Pete but that came with the job of being best friends with Pete Wentz. Bronx continued to stare at him. Patrick sighed and rubbed a hand over his face. "Look at me. Talking to a baby," Patrick mumbled and he began to look arond the living room, trying to find anything to entertain this baby. There were books (that wouldn't work because some of those books wouldn't even hold Patrick's attention). There were DVD's but Patrick was pretty sure Pete would want to be the one to introduce Bronx to 'The Nightmare Before Christmas'. Then there were some CDs and vinyls but Patrick wasn't sure that bronx would appreciate music at this age.
He siged again, just wishing he knew what do to. "I always knew I could be a boring person, but dear God, I can't even entertain a baby?" He got up and walked around the rooms, trying to find something.
Bronx's eyes followed Patrick's every move.
Patrick was about to get up when he saw a Sesame Street dvd sitting on an end table next toi the couch. He picked it up and flipped it over, where there was a sticky note." Patrick put this in, he loves it and he'll fall asleep shortly after."
'Damn it Pete. You couldn't of told me this?' He sighed. He looked from the DVD to Bronx and back to the DVD. He shrugged. "Whatever keeps you entertained." Patrick mubmled and popped the DVD in. He walked over to the walker and took Bronx out. He sat on the couch, Bronx in his lap.
Three plays through later, to the point where Patrick could quote most of the scenes, Bronx was still smiling and clapping along with Elmo and friends. He didn't even show a sign that he was tired.
'Pete planned this,' Patrick thought to himself. 'I don't know how, but he did.' He looked to the clock. '10:30'.
He placed Bronx on the couch next to him and stared at him, Bronx, again, staring back. "Come on little guy, you must be getting tired." Bronx reached forward, grabbing Patrick's nose and squeezing it slightly. He laughed.
Patrick sighed. He picked up Bronx and cradled him in his arms. "Honey is for bees silly bear..." He began to sing. Bronx continued to stare at him. "Besides there's jellybeans everywhere. It's not the what it seems in the land of dreams. Don't worry your head, just go to sleep." He rocked Bronx back and forth lightly as he sang, smiling as the tiny eyelids began to droop. "It doesn't matter how you feel, life is just a ferris wheel." He continued on with the lullaby until Bronx was sound asleep.
'If I only knew it was that easy,' he thought and glanced at the clock once more. '11:11' it read. 'Pete should be home soon' and as if Pete was reading his mind, he heard the front door click open and Pete and Ashlee appeared in the doorway.
Ashlee smiled and walked over to Patrick, taking Bronx from him and headed upstairs.
"How was he Patrick?" Pete asked as Patrick stood up from the couch, stretching a little.
"I hate you. I'm never watching Sesame Street again," Patrick mumbled, glaring at Pete. Pete laughed and shook his head.
"I knew that would keep him up."
Patrick groaned. "And I knew you planned that."
Pete grinned and hugged Patrick. "Thank you dude. How about you head home now and get that sleep you look like you need."
Patrick mumbled something that sounded like "That was my plan." Pete laughed again and led Patrick to his car. "See you later dude and thanks again." Patrick waved and pulled away, happy that he could help a friend out.
