[Hakoda pops onto the communicator with an important observation.]

Two days of rain hasn't drowned out the fire on this deck. Instead it's just humid.

[And thus with his room feeling a bit uncomfortable and no longer liking his clothes sticking to him, Hakoda retreats to the library which he hasn't really properly explored. Having never really ( Read more... )

[audio], [action], humidity sucks

[If he goes in the library, he'll find an Indian girl curled in a chair in a corner, peering curiously at him when he comes in.]

[He'll give a polite nod as he walks past her, looking at a shelf behind her. Apparently nobody told him to keep quiet in a library.]

An entire section of books... about plumbing.

[She'd let her eyes fall back down, but she looks up at that, a little startled.]

...Plumbing?

[...Really? She had...not found that section yet.]

[He glances back at her.]

Apparently so. Not quite what I was looking for.

[She closes her book.]

What is it you were looking for?

[Her accent is thick, but likely not placeable. The language she speaks is not something anyone here seems to know whatsoever.]

[Not that it would matter, as his world is various shades of Asia anyway.]

Nothing, really. Definitely not plumbing, though.

[She smiles, pulling herself out of her seat.]

There are many books in here, yes? From...fairy tales, and mysteries, to ones that thrill and those that make you weep.

[She folds her hands and looks around.]

What...is a good starting place?

[He's a little bit lost amongst all these books. Hakoda has never in his life had this much time to simply do nothing with.]

I wouldn't know. Before arriving here, I never had much time to read.

Hm. Well...let's see.

[She brushes past him, lifting her fingers to run along the spines of the books.]

There are...always the classics, yes? Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Don Quixote...

[She pulls one out, flipping through some of the pages.]

Here. [She hands over a copy of 1984.] Perhaps this?

[He stares down at the book, wondering at the significance of the title.]

I've not heard of any of these. So what is this one about?

[She thinks a moment on the translation of what she wants to say.]

It is...based on a different future, yes? Where...they monitor everything you do. Many rules.

[A different future...?] Monitoring everything? Is it about Ba Sing Se? [He's heard stories.]

I...do not know what that is. [She sounds apologetic.]

[Ah, he should have expected as much.]

A city from my world. [He hands the book back.] Perhaps something with a bit more adventure. [A thought as he considers the rain.] And a colder, snowier setting?

[She nods, then takes the book back and reshelves it.]

Let's see...adventure, snow...

[She thoughtfully tugs one out, then hands it over.]

Try that one.

It's okay, I had something in mind anyway! afathertorn June 16 2010, 04:12:03 UTC
[He takes the book and considers it.]

"Call of the Wild"... sounds promising enough.
