Stranded on Elmwood Park

Jan 04, 2009 10:25

Last night was pretty adventurous...

Lauren & I decided to see The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at 5:15 (early since it was 3 hours). Well we saw the movie started to walk out of the Palace and it was raining like crazy. Mrs. Nancy (Lauren's mom) called us and said we might as well stay and see another movie because it was starting to flood and by the time our second movie was over we would probably be in the clear...or not.

After we saw Yes Man, which was way funnier than I thought it would be, we started round 2 to the car. It was about 11 pm and it was raining but not flooded in the parking lot. So we decide let's take a back way to Jeff Hwy since Clearview is being blocked by cops. Thought it was an awesome plan until...Elmwood Park West was waaay flooded. We went really slow hoping no water would come into the car, which it did not. Thank goodness. We got about a block from Jeff Hwy and we see a stalled car in the middle of the street. Automatically we turned in to park the car at an office building. Several people in front of us and behind us did the same thing. We got out of the car and came up with A, B, & C plans. Plan A was to turn around, go back through the high water and find another way out like Citrus Ave. to Hickory Ave. Plan B was to wait for the water to go down. Since it was not raining we assumed about an hour. Plan C was to have someone come out in a higher vehicle to get us. We automatically said no to Plan C and decided on Plan B. Then....Lauren's said "Is my car smoking?" I said "No it's just steam."

But it was smoking and smelled pretty bad. We called Michael, who was also stranded in a parking lot, and he said it was from water hittin the engine, nothing to worry about but don't turn it on for a while. I started laughing because all my stranded stories are with Lauren. While we were chillin, Mr. Ric called and said he would come get us if we could walk back to the theater. We said no, but then it started raining hard so we let him come get us. So much for saying no to Plan C. We walked mid-shin deep in flood water for about 10 minutes for him to get us. We thanked him so much and he said no problem. We went out Hickory to attempt to get to Jeff Hwy. It looked clear then we saw 3 cars stalled out by th Wal-Mart. We had never seen Jeff Hwy. flood like that before. We took River Road to Central and got me home safely.

I really thought that my car would have water in it since I have such good luck with that. This would have been like the 4th time. But I was very lucky and no water!!! I did pull the car in the front yard as a precaution. Such an adventure and it proved having more than one plan is smart.

Going look at an apartment at Walnut Creek at 2 pm! Wish me luck!
