Hong Kong Day 4

Nov 22, 2010 20:18

My last full day in Hong Kong. We decided to just wake up naturally. I woke up around 10am. After we got ready, we took the train to Tsim Sha Tsui where we took the Star Ferry across Victoria Harbor to Hong Kong Island. When were in Central, we had Subway for lunch (hehe...) and then we walked to the Zoological and Botanical Gardens. In the zoo part there were a lot of different kinds of monkeys lol. We stayed there for a while, and then walked to take the tram to a different part of the city. The tram is the oldest form of transportation in Hong Kong. We rode that, and then eventually we got off and looked for a coffee shop to recharge ourselves. We ended up going in Pacific Coffee Company until the closed. We then went to my hostel to pick up my things since we decided that I would just sleep in her hostel again. It was also be easier for her to put me on the bus for the airport that way.

Once we got to her hostel, we decided to go see a movie in Tuen Mun. We looked up times and decided to see Social Network, but when we got there it ended up not being shown. So we decided to eat dinner at Euro Gogo. We got pizza and mashed potatoes. Afterward, we went to dorm and took showers and bummed around until we went to sleep.

In the morning we got up really early so we could catch a bus to somewhere to catch the airport bus. It was sad leaving Hong Kong and Sarah. Because, now all I have to really look forward to is going home...hopefully it will go by quickly. I have 57 days left. I'm planning on making a list of things to do before I leave and I will try to do one once a week. But first, Tamara and I have to see Harry Potter soon. Also, we are going to have a Thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, though we won't be having a turkey because we don't have an oven and turkey is hard to find in Asia.

Here's a list of things I noticed about Hong Kong (mostly compared to Tokyo/Japan):
-It's very different than Tokyo
-There is a different kind of crowded and brightness
-it's dirtier than Tokyo
-It's a lot more international
-more foreigners
-more English everywhere
-the chopsticks are longer
-before you eat in Chinese restaurants, you wash your utensils in tea
-The trains are wider
-Everything in Tokyo is a lot more polite and organized
-the train system in simpler than in Tokyo
-There are many types of transportation: I went on plane, bus, minibus, tram, lightrail, train
