Same universe as "Sunset"

Big cities got hit the worst. When the inferstructure started fallin’ apart, the big strong government got real weak, and couldn’t give the services it usually does.

It stopped sendin’ out the garbage men, so trash started pilin’ up, and that meant lots more food fer the rats, ‘coons, and possums. The varmint population exploded. Those varmints spread all sorts of o’ nasty diseases and parasites, and on accounts of all the people and varmints being squished together, a lot of people got sick.

With all the diseases stuck in the same bodies, new ones that they dint have a clue what to do for started poppin’ up. Add to that, hospitals were running outta space, supplies, and staff. Not enough shots to go around. After the first year there was a flu epidemic. Millions died. Those that was left felt hurt and betrayed by the world as a whole.

So they got angry at it, and started fighting everything. They gathered up in big ugly groups ‘n attacked anything they blamed. They blamed the hospitals fer lettin ‘em get sick and the government fer not fixin’ things. After awhile, they stopped tryin’ ta justify their actions, and jus’ destroyed whatever they could.

If people hadn’t panicked, it mighta been easier to fix things. If the world at large had kept its self together life mighta gotten back to normal by now. But they didn’t. People panicked and rioted and let prejudices rule ‘em and just messed everything up further, like they always do. They shoulda learned from history, from the Salem Witch Trials and the Great Depression.

But they don’ seem ta learn from the mistakes of othas; They jus’ keep makin’ bad things worse. Worse an worse an worse, ‘till tha whole thing comes crashin’ down, an’ it’s the worst it can get.

I’m hopin’ we’ve reached tha’ point, cuz I really don’ wanna see how the world could go further to hell.
