Misc. update in no particular order

House
  • Jim and I picked up some blinds for our bathrooms at Linens N Things (thank you 40% off liquidation). Our two bathrooms both have windows; the upstairs window doesn't show much scandalousness, unless you're changing right in front of it, so we picked up a nice offwhite roman shade to replace the ratty yellowing old skool roll shade. The window in the downstairs loo overlooks our 3 season porch. Not terribly problematic, unless people are actually on the porch at dusk, and the former bathroom blinds don't leave much to the imagination. So now we have nice bamboo roman shades.
  • Pellet stoves rock my socks off. It keeps our living room so toasty warm, so that we don't have ot worry about heating the rest of the house above 60 degrees.
  • We have mice. We knew this would be likely since we saw poop when we were cleaing up after moving in. Yep, have some new poop under the kitchen sink and in the attic (not to mention the scurrying sounds I've heard in the attic). Jim bought some traps, and some sonic mouse deterrents. I've checked the trap under the sink, but no mouse to be seen in it (initially, I was a little nervous and told Jim he should do it, and he was like "Umm, what critters do you play with at work?" "Uh, mice" "So you shouldn't really be afraid of them in a box under the sink right?" "*sigh* Yeah I guess". But I won't check the one in the attic b/c it's spooooky up there. I'm actually thinking we should let our cat loose up in the attic and see what conquests she will present to us. Hehheh.
Job

Bah humbug, I am once again searching for a new job. The exectuive vice president to whom my boss and I reported into "resigned" effective Nov. 30. The news was released Dec. 1, and came as a suprise to many, and has let to rampant speculation that he was fired. Since my boss and I weren't mainstream members of the Discovery matrix, we are kind of scrambling to find ourselves a new home withing the company. We've been told to continue what we've been doing for now, but I'm hoping that if they can the project (which is likely), they will can it before the holidays (b/c I am slated to take care of some very sick mice during the company wide shut down, and I'd really rather not, particularly if the project is getting killed anyway). What really bites is that we got in a huges shipment of squeaks today, and it's likely we'll have to euthanize them because of the aforementioned project killing. Where was I? Oh right, looking for a new job. Well, I still have one. That's good. I don't know how long that'll be, or if they want to move our "headcount" to Princeton (regardless if our heads are attached to it) where the rest of neurosciences are, or if they'll let us play nice up in Cambridge. To cover my rear end, I've applied to some relevant internal postings, and begun applying externally. I can always say "no" I suppose, but I feel better that I've gotten the ball rolling.

Trip to NYC

It was just a day trip with my mom (took a charter bus from Taunton). We did some sightseeing at Rockafeller, St.Patrick's cathedral, and Times Square. My freshman year suitemate Dani lives in Manhattan, so she showed us around. It was great seeing her, but I didn't expect her to be our tourguide (so glad she was though, mom would have gotten us lost!). We hit Canal Street and picked up some knock off purses, sunglasses, and scarves. We shopped the CB2 store (so hip), and a couple of Japanese theme stores, Muji and Pearl River. I preferred Pearl River, it was much more ecclectic and much more affordable. And yum, the tea selection they had was great. We had a fabulous lunch at a bistro (the name escapes me, but it was near Broadway) where they served bread and oil and OLIVES as an appetizer. And then they gave us little madeleines instead of mints or fortune cookies with the bill.

Christmas tree

Monster big. We tagged it Thanksgiving weeking. We're going to cut it this coming weekend. I'll update when (if) we get it in the house (it's 10-11 feet!!!)
