It's going to be long and detailed, because I don't want to forget what happened... Just a warning.
Friday was a sucktastic day at work, so I bailed early and went over to the Christmas Tree Shops in Natick to pick up some stuff to give to his niece for Easter. I got home around 5:30ish which is waaay earlier than when I normally get home. I called my mom, just to let her know that I was staying at my place over the weekend and not heading to Jim's. (She usually likes to know where "homebase" is for the weekends, and Jim and I hadn't really decided til late Thursday night). Anywho, I'm yapping with mom for about 20 minutes when Jim gets home. I tell her, and she says goodbye surprising fast (though I didn't suspect a thing at the time... My mom normally takes 3 years to say goodbye on the phone... It's not like I don't talk to her everyday or anything). Jim says "who are you talking to?" and I answered him. He goes "did she call you?" and I was like, nah, I called her when I got home. Then he goes, "OK, I'll be back, I have to bring up my laundry". He comes back with his laundry basket (he does his laundry at my place), puts it down, hugs and kisses me, and says "you didn't notice the Michael's bag in my hands". Which I didn't. I love scrapbooking. I'm thinking he bought me presents!! Then he says "I'm tired of the excuses that you haven't gotten around to scrapbooking us yet (I'm still scrapping college, in which he does not appear), so I got you some stuff to get you started". He pulls out a little black album with a picture of us in Greece on the cut-out cover page. I'm like "awwe", and he continues as I opened it "I might have scrapbooked a page". It was this picture:
http://jstpierre.peart.com/gallery/sophreception/IMG_0133 with a sticker that read "Love puts the fun in together, the sad in apart, and the joy in a heart". Awwwe. So I turned the page. And I saw a more complicated page, with more pictures of us and stickers with sweet sayings on them. And Jim said "well, maybe I did more than a page..." As I'm reading the little phrases and seeing all the work he's done, I'm getting a little misty eyed. I turn the page again, and it's more pictures of us, more cute sayings. I'm crying at this point. I still have no idea what's going on. I'm just so touched by the scrapbook. I flip the page, and there are more pics of us. One of them says "when the one man loves the one woman and the one woman loves the one man, the very angels leave heaven and come and sit in that house and sing for joy". Tears are coming harder, and I start to suspect something. As I turn to the final pages, there's this picture:
http://jstpierre.peart.com/gallery/album07/ring_3_013 (that's my ring!!!) with "always and forever" written underneath and I see him get down on one knee and he proposes. I barely eep out a yes before I completely break down crying. It was about five minutes of me hugging him before we pulled apart and he put this beautiful ring on my finger.
Earlier in the day, Jim told me he wasn't going to be at my house till late-ish because he had a lot of work to do and packing and cat feeding before he could get on his merry way. In reality, he left work early, drove to my parents' house in Taunton. They weren't there. Called my brother and said "Yianni, I'm looking for your dad, but I don't want him to know I'm looking for him. Give him a call, find out where he is, and call me back." Two minutes later, my dad calls Jim and said "Yianni said you wanted me to call?" D'oh. Jim did some quick thinking and said he was on a sales call in Raynham (the next town over) and decided to stop by. My folks are at the house in Wareham, so they told him to stop on by over there. (It's about 30 minutes away). He drives over, but my dad thinks that he had his new motorcycle and was so excited that he wanted to show it off. When Jim shows up in his truck, my dad was apparently disappointed Jim didn't have the bike. Jim was pretty nervous, and it took about 20 minutes of my mom trying to feed him before I came up as topic of conversation. So he asked them for permission their blessing and showed them the ring. I guess both of my parents got a little misty eyed. He strictly forbids my mom from calling me (she's not so good with the secret keeping stuff, but she held it in like a champ!!) which was why he was suspicious when I was on the phone with her when he walked in.
Earlier in the week, Jim picked up the ring. He kept it in the work safe, and would take it out during the day and keep it on his desk while he worked (and made my scrapbook, apparently). His partner in crime (his assistant Shawnda) spent about 4 hours trying to get the perfect picture of the ring for the scrapbook.
Earlier this month, Jim bought a motorcycle. This was kind of a sore point between the two of us. We had kind of agreed that the ring would come before the motorcycle, and we could pay for the motorcycle together. But then he saw the perfect bike, an '05 something or other in Black Cherry:
http://jstpierre.peart.com/gallery/RoadStar/IMG_0005R and they didn't make this color anymore. So he bought it, which was ok by me, but I told him he couldn't ride it till I got my ring. I was basically figuring that he'd take advantage of me being and ole softie and just butter me up and I'd let him ride it. What I didn't know what that he'd already paid for the ring, it was just being hand carved by some dude at a microscope, which was part of the hold up. The other holdup was that he purchased initially another setting, but it ended up being too chintzy when he actually saw it in person. So he had to return it, get his money back, and then start all over.
Well the week's not looking too bad anymore....
