Influences behind the genesis of the Xenomorph Cosmology

--

Besides the obvious copies of scenes & plot from "Planet of the Vampires," & "It! The Terror From Beyond Space," ...there was the entire Quatermass series from the BBC ... and there were other influences from films, such as "Forbidden Planet," & "The Thing From Another World," ...as well as "The Creature from the Black Lagoon," "Night of the Blood Beast," "Queen of Blood," "Cat People," "Ten Little Indians," "Jaws," & "Halloween" ...and don't forget the "beachball with claws" from "Dark Star" ...the insectoids from the Doctor Who episode "The Ark in Space" ...as well as other scenarios similar to those found in a few books, particularly: HP Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness," (as well as creatures from other Lovecraftian tales, such as the Nightgaunts & the Mi-Go), Agatha Christie's "Then There Were None," Joseph Conrad's "Nostromo" & A.E. van Vogt’s "The Voyage of the Space Beagle" ...but of course, all tribute must be given to the greatest film never made: Jodorowsky's Dune!

A few of these I had already noticed, but I should also give credit where credit is due...

And some folks would track this story much further back in folklore... to underworld battles with demons & dragons, like Beowulf & even Gilgamesh ...complete with stories of the Anunnaki, or Nephilim, besides the obvious Greek Titans referenced by the name Prometheus... as well as seriously profound questions about the Gnostic Demiurge... but perhaps these are questions for a different forum in another time?

Meanwhile, can we search for further influences behind the look & feel of the xenomorph in the inspirations from painting & sculpture, as well as film, for the creature design & special effects by H. R. Giger, Dan O'Bannon, Ron Shusett, Carlo Rambaldi, Dennis Ayling, Brian Johnson & Nick Allder (as well as other art designs by Chris Foss & Jean "Moebius" Giraud)?
