simply, i think you are missing the big easy picture in the question of why neda's story resonated so profoundly - she was young, pretty and female. if she had instead been a 30 year old a-political businessman, even just minding his own business on the way to buy a cup of chai, you never would have seen a blip about it.

oh, i just thought that was obvious... that's what i meant about her story being too *convenient* ...she was female, young, pretty, smart, compassionate, a-political, and just happened to be caught on camera with a particularly horrific death rattle... and if it wasn't staged, then why doesn't this sort of thing happen more often? it almost seemed like she could have been some sort of sacred cow lead to her slaughter in order to create a martyr for her cause... perhaps more like the falun gong & buddhist monks who self-immolate... she even made comments beforehand like she knew that she might die... but sounded like she had made her peace with that possibility... and i wonder how is that any different than anyone who goes off to protest, or fight a war?
