friday night, i played my djembe at mojo's, while
harliquinmayhem, ilarva, and
ephemeral_ether spun fire... it was harliquinmayhem's first time to light up, and she is a total natural -- she really enjoys poi and it's great to see her smile when she spins. so many people get so serious-looking with fire, and she just beams with happiness. and, although of course she does look beautiful, she's not _trying_ to look sexy, so she looks even lovlier, to me... it was an entirely awesome event, with the bands grass, and cobo foofaroo, who usually play at the tea room on friday nights; but this was a special event, complete with the aforementioned firedancers, and a stunning fashion show.
oh, this would be a good place for a plug, wouldn't it?

Every Friday and Saturday night from 8pm to 4am
there is a metamorphosis @ 307 W. 5th St.
In the daytime, the place is Hot Jumbo Bagel Deli, but after dark, Cleopatra Nights sponsors a transformation:
shisha, hookas, international food and teas
and music...
at midnight, they have bellydancing, (that's when the after-hours arabic crowd starts rolling in)
earlier in the evening on Fridays, there is "live music and local great breath event?!"
...two bands called (respectively) _Grass_ and _Cobo Foofaroo_ that play some of the most intricate, progressive, folk-art-rock-jazz-craziness with zany time signature changes, and real soul underlying wholistic themes with drums, bass, guitar, violin, horns, percussion, lead, and choral vocals... king crimson and radiohead beware!

saturday, i ran into
reed oliver and we went to a (post) equinox party, where i got to play my djembe some more, this time folksy/swing/blues/bluegrass... it was a regular Kerrville bonfire! then, i went dancing with ananda at texture, where herb from alien was dj'ing. joseph(who is not shaggy), grant, and jen were there, and sage was workin'it, too! afterwards, i went to the tea room and played in a super drum circle with some folks who do a yoga party every sunday eve.
sunday, i studied some physics for my test monday morning; but i had to go out dancing again, this time @ elysium for their retro-eighties night. the place was totally dead until midnight, so i pretty much had the whole dance floor to myself. there were maybe three tables of people there, and a couple of folks asked me if i danced on broadway oh, gawrsh -- i'm not nearly disciplined enough for that kind of stuff -- i'd be lucky to get a gig at a boybar, hmmmm...
well, 'round about midnight, apparently, after an EGC confirmation, the thing to do is go to Elysium and celebrate, so:
copia arrived with
lionserpent and
jessaries. copia and lionserpent went home early, so after jessaries and i danced for a little while longer, we went out for breakfast and had a delightful conversation about tiggers and other wonderful things.
then, it was time for me to study for the physics test monday morning, which was not nearly as difficult as i had feared... now it's time to catch up in my drama class! i really want to go see
Pantalone's War by the Austin Commedia Society next Saturday at 7pm (March 29).
