here's a scathing criticism of michael moore's position on wes clark running for president... i'm glad someone has been doing their homework -- i just haven't had the time to organize my notes since i last posted about clark.

I haven't watched the issues. Really, I don't need to -- elections are determined by trends more than anything else.
When the economy is in a downward turn, as it is right now, and people are disgruntled, as they are right now, the presidency always changes parties. This is what got Bush Sr out of office 11 years ago. As campaign season begins to gear up, people are actually becoming MORE disgruntled, as the Republican press machine has lost its ability to downplay scandal the way they managed with Reagan and Bush (funny how every time a national crisis came up, the media started talking about Broccoli instead...).
So, a Democrat will win. Which Democrat?
The "grass roots" candidate -- the one announced at the 11th hour, who has buzz but no announcement leading up to it. Clinton was a "who?" until very late in the pre-primary season. Clark is obviously trying to fill that role again. Get the hype up (thank you Moore), announce as late as possible, and then start gaining serious momentum.
The only thing that can derail Clark's campaign is if Hillary announces a bid. And Bill certainly has been hyping THAT up lately.
When's the deadline to declare candidacy? I predict about a week, maybe two, beforehand, Hillary will declare her candidacy, beginning a tide of momentum that will win her the presidency. The formula got BIll in office, and he seems very intent on making sure people WANT her as president (given excerpts of public speeches he's made lately). That she insists she won't do it publically as often as she has only reinforces this.
And truthfully, if she's remotely the president her husband was, that's a good thing.
Another prediction: Patriot and Patriot 2, along with the Home Defense Act, will have the same effect on the Republican Party that the Alien and Sedition Acts had early in our nation's history. We may see a new party step forward in the next 20 years or so as the second party. Of course, it'll be "meet the new boss, same as the old boss," but we get to come up with new insults for them. =)
