In 1962, Thomas Kuhn wrote The Structure of Scientific Revolution, and fathered, defined and popularized the concept of "paradigm shift." Kuhn argues that scientific advancement is not evolutionary, but rather is a "series of peaceful interludes punctuated by intellectually violent revolutions", and in those revolutions "one conceptual world view is replaced by another."
The overthrow of Ptolemaic cosmology by Copernican heliocentrism, and the displacement of Newtonian mechanics by quantum physics and general relativity, are both examples of major paradigm shifts.
There are many paradigm shifts for which I advocate presently and to name a few off the top of my head...
* libertine ethics and morals (legalisation of all victimless crimes) * transition of economic base from industrial to informational * transformation of global consciousness (starting with the microcosm... it will spread to the macrocosm eventually) * convergence of technologies producing intelligently shared high-quality content interactive wireless broadband * formation of intentional communities (from temporary autonomous zones like Burning Man, to the eventual creation of permanent autonomus zones)
My favorite writer on the subject would have to be Ken Wilber.

well my hat goes off to you. i am impressed at your views and the information you site to back them. Wish more people gave active thought to such things.
